The English as a Second Language Department at City College of San Francisco serves over 20,000 enrollments annually, making it one of the largest ESL programs in the California community college system. The department offers instruction at three campus locations in addition to a fully online program. Our curriculum spans absolute beginner/literacy level through advanced composition. ESL faculty serve students from a wide range of language, educational, and cultural backgrounds - most of whom are immigrants, refugees, and multilingual adults balancing coursework with employment and family responsibilities. The department is committed to removing barriers to language access and academic advancement, and views equitable outcomes for historically underserved and linguistically minoritized students as central to its mission. We operate through a participatory governance model, in which faculty share responsibility for curricular, programmatic, and institutional decision-making alongside their instructional duties.

The department invites applications for one tenure-track full-time faculty position. The successful applicant will deliver outstanding in-person and/or online instruction in support of student learning, as well as actively engage in departmental service, participatory decision-making, and college-wide governance structures. We seek a colleague who approaches instruction, curriculum, and governance work through an equity-minded lens, attentive to the structural barriers that immigrant and multilingual students often face in accessing higher education.
