A leading university in the Bay Area, California is seeking a Workday ERP Architect to support and evolve its enterprise Workday ecosystem. This role will play a key leadership role in designing, managing, and optimizing the institution's ERP platform.
This position requires 5 days per week onsite in the Bay Area, California and will work closely with IT leadership, enterprise applications teams, and functional stakeholders across the university.
Play a principal role in supporting, building, managing and planning the university's core ERP applications and new technology within the Workday ecosystem.
Provide technical leadership and expertise in the Workday ecosystem
Provide project leadership
Mentor other Enterprise Applications staff in Workday technology
Other duties as assigned
Design and maintenance of security framework for all Workday functional areas, complying with University Data Security policies and end user requirements.
Design, development, deployment and maintenance of integrations from Workday to external vendor systems and other internal systems using Workday integration tools and external integration design tools for Web Service consumption.
Perform data audits, data conversion builds, formatting, and processing for reporting needs, data corrections, and mass data updates within Workday.
Design and development of custom modules for university-specific requirements to track financial information, including requirements gathering from end users, system design, development, testing of business processes, reporting and integrations.
Redesign and troubleshoot system configurations per end user requirements, following implementation procedures including testing and deployment.
Provide expertise in Workday domains including but not limited to:
Configurable security
Integration tools (EIB, Workday Studio, Core Connectors and Document Transformation)
Business processes and custom report development including BIRT
Data conversion
Holistic understanding of the Workday platform and the ability to assess impacts across multiple functional areas
Additional responsibilities:
Establish and maintain a well-controlled systems environment by defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
Collaborate with the Workday Community to resolve issues and remain informed about enhancements.
Identify opportunities for system improvement.
Provide technical analysis and system changes to solve complex issues beyond the scope of other EA staff expertise.
Expand and integrate Enterprise Applications functionality with other IT services.
Lead teams of enterprise applications and functional office staff on projects to deliver new and improved services.
Engage stakeholders, evaluate technical and functional solution options, define decision criteria, and ensure successful testing and delivery.
Gather requirements, design, develop, deploy, and maintain system modules while troubleshooting user issues across multiple departments.
Conduct system smoke testing, performance tuning, and explore new functionality during Workday's biannual feature releases.
Simplify system complexity and streamline processes to improve usability and user experience.
Work independently on initiatives not requiring a team structure.
Mentor EA staff to improve their Workday technical skills through coaching and presentations.
Conduct walkthroughs and share best practices for system analysis, configuration changes, and architecture decisions.
Provide insights for professional growth and networking within the Workday community.
Work with management to recommend and implement training programs.
Develop documentation covering common processes, configurations, and system functions.
Continue professional development through Workday Community, Workday Learning Center, Workday Rising, and other training opportunities.
Participate in special projects as assigned.

Comprehensive knowledge of Workday Security design and configuration including authentication policies, system accounts, and security audits.
Comprehensive knowledge of Workday Integrations including EIB, Cloud Connect, Workday Studio, and Web Services.
Comprehensive knowledge of Workday reporting tools including Calculated Fields, Prism Analytics, and Standard, Custom, Composite, Matrix, BIRT and XPresso reports.
Comprehensive knowledge of Workday system administration tools including Business Process Administration, Condition Rules, Custom Validations, System Configuration design, Custom Object development, and Request Framework.
Strong knowledge of systems analysis techniques and project management methodologies.
Experience with data extraction and transformation tools including SQL, Python, XML, and JSON.
Strong knowledge of Workday Financials.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results on time.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
BA/BS required; graduate degree preferred.
Workday Pro Certification preferred (Integrations, Reporting, Security, or Studio).
Minimum 8 years of ERP support or software development lifecycle experience.
Minimum 2 years supporting Workday Financials, including reporting, integrations, security, business processes, and configuration management.
