JOB SUMMARY
The Emergency Response Operations (ERO) Lab Assistant will provide active support to instructors for courses?on a term-by-term basis. This position reports to the Dean of Allied Health and Sciences. The Lab Assistant should have a main area of study as an Criminal Justice (CJA) or related field(s). Classes are offered during the day time, on-line, and in the evening.

- Assist instructors with course materials in accordance with Course Content and Outcome Guides using methodologies appropriate to the audience and the subject; e.g., group work or discussion, online, technology enhanced delivery and computers.
- Assist with delivery of supplemental teaching materials in a variety of ways to meet the needs of a broad range of learning abilities.
- Participate in evaluation and assessment of student academic achievement and demonstrate modification of teaching techniques in accordance with assessment feedback as directed by the course instructor.?
- Cultivate a variety of assistance styles in order to provide quality learning experiences to a diverse student population.
- Works effectively using English written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills to meet all requirements for the program.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
- DPSST certification in the subject area;
- Licensure if operating equipment;
Preferred:
- Hold a degree in the subject area or related area.
- Experience using Canvas and community college experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE
Required:
- Knowledge of basic principles, practices, equipment, and safety protocols related to Criminal Justice training environments.
- Ability to set up, maintain, inventory, and organize instructional laboratory equipment, supplies, and training materials.
- Knowledge of occupational health, safety, and risk management procedures applicable to laboratory and simulation settings.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency with standard computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, email, and data entry systems.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation related to equipment, supplies, maintenance, and laboratory activities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
Preferred:
- Experience in public safety, emergency services, law enforcement, fire service, or related fields.
- Experience supporting laboratory, simulation, or skills-based instruction.
- Relevant certifications or education in EMS, Fire Science, Criminal Justice, or Public Safety.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily classroom-based with occasional field visits or off-site events as necessary.
- Frequent interaction with students, faculty, and industry partners.
- May require evening or weekend hours during peak activity periods.
- Lift or carry up to 50 lbs. or other weights as necessary.
- Regular movement between seated, standing, and walking positions.
- Standard office and occasional field environment.
Supplemental Information

This position is classified as part-time and is typically scheduled for up to 20 hours per week. Regularly scheduled hours may be subject to change. Hours may not exceed 128 hours per one-month pay period. Not eligible for paid holidays, vacation or healthcare benefits beyond those required by law.
