Gynecologic Oncologist
Women facing gynecologic cancer need a physician who can diagnose with precision, operate with judgment, and stay with them through treatment and survivorship. In this role, you lead complex surgical and medical care, set the standard for outcomes, and help a multidisciplinary team deliver treatment that is timely, evidence-based, and humane. Success is measured in survival, recovery, and the trust patients place in you at the hardest moments of their lives.
Performance Objectives
- Evaluate new and established patients and deliver a clear diagnosis and treatment plan within the program’s access standards.
- Perform indicated gynecologic cancer surgery—including complex pelvic and cytoreductive cases—with complication, margin, and recovery results that meet or exceed peer benchmarks.
- Direct systemic therapy, including chemotherapy and appropriate targeted or immunotherapy options, and adjust plans based on response, toxicity, and goals of care.
- Lead tumor-board decisions so each case has a documented, multidisciplinary plan and coordinated next steps.
- Reduce time from referral to first treatment by closing handoff gaps with radiology, pathology, infusion, and perioperative teams.
- Build a survivorship and surveillance pathway that catches recurrence early and addresses late effects of treatment.
- Contribute to quality review, protocol adherence, and the training of residents, fellows, or advanced practice clinicians.
Environment & Resources
- Practice within a cancer program supported by gynecologic oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, and dedicated nursing and navigation.
- Operating room access, infusion capacity, and tumor-board infrastructure for high-complexity cases.
- Advanced practice clinicians and clinical support staff to extend clinic capacity and continuity.
- Reporting to the physician leader of the oncology or women’s cancer service, with defined quality and volume expectations.
Essential Qualifications
- MD or DO and board certification or eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology, with completion of an ACGME-accredited gynecologic oncology fellowship.
- Active or obtainable state medical license and hospital privileges appropriate to the practice.
- Demonstrated independent performance of complex gynecologic cancer surgery and management of systemic therapy.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary case review and communicate plans clearly to patients, families, and referring clinicians.
- Commitment to quality measurement, protocol-based care, and teaching within a clinical team.
Role Selling Points
- A focused gynecologic oncology practice, not a generalist add-on.
- True multidisciplinary partnership, with navigation that keeps patients moving from referral to treatment.
- Authority to shape pathways, access, and surgical quality—not only to fill a clinic template.
- A team model that protects time for complex cases, tumor board, and follow-up.
- A mission centered on outcomes patients can feel: faster answers, safer surgery, and care that continues after treatment ends.
