    Description

    Neurology Physician Assistant

Patients with stroke, seizure, headache, and neurodegenerative disease need a clinician who can move from first assessment to a clear plan without losing the person in the diagnosis. You will extend a neurology team's reach, shorten time to treatment, and make complex care understandable for patients and families. Success shows up in safer transitions, fewer missed follow-ups, and decisions that hold in clinic and on consult.

    Performance Objectives

    • Complete timely neurologic evaluations for new and return patients, producing a working diagnosis and plan the collaborating physician can act on the same day.
    • Manage a defined panel of headache, epilepsy, stroke, movement, and neuromuscular follow-ups so medication changes, monitoring, and referrals stay on schedule.
    • Cut avoidable delays by ordering indicated studies within protocol and escalating red-flag findings before the next handoff.
    • Lead visit and discharge education so patients leave knowing warning signs, medications, and the next appointment, reducing preventable returns and no-shows.
    • Close documentation the same day to quality and coding standards, leaving a record another clinician can trust.
    • Coordinate nursing, therapy, pharmacy, and primary care so the plan survives the handoff, not only the visit.
    • Deliver one measurable improvement each year in throughput, education, or protocol adherence, using clinic data rather than anecdote.

    Environment and Resources

You will practice alongside board-certified neurologists in a mixed outpatient and consult setting with established stroke, seizure, and headache pathways. Medical assistants, nursing, and a shared electronic record with order sets support the work. Dedicated templates, protected documentation time, and scheduled case review with a collaborating physician are built in, along with structured onboarding and CME support.

    Essential Qualifications

    • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification, and an active state license or eligibility before start.
    • At least two years in neurology, hospital medicine, or closely related care, with ownership of history, exam, and plan.
    • Proven skill with a focused neurologic exam and clear judgment on when imaging or admission cannot wait.
    • Working command of common neurologic medications, required monitoring, and when to escalate.
    • Clear communication with patients who have cognitive or language barriers and with consulting teams.
    • Electronic-record proficiency that supports quality measures and accurate coding.

    Why This Role

    • Clinical ownership of visits and plans, not rooming or scribing.
    • Breadth across stroke, epilepsy, headache, and neurodegenerative care.
    • Case review that grows judgment instead of isolating high-risk decisions.
    • Schedule time for documentation and teaching, not an after-hours tax on quality.
    • Room to deepen a subspecialty interest once core performance is established.
