SUMMARY

The Equitable Distribution Hearing Officer performs a quasi-judicial function created pursuant to the Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedure. See Pa.R.C.P. Rules 1920.51 and 1920.55-2. The Hearing Officer presides over record hearings. Timely resolutions to matters heard before the Hearing Officer are critical and expected by the Court. Work is performed independently while exercising sound judgment and discretion.

This position is classified as full-time. The Hearing Officer will be expected to work five (5) days per week for forty-eight (48) weeks during the year. Working hours are dependent on daily scheduling. The Court's normal working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (7 hours per day).

The Hearing Officer also addresses divorce issues.

The Hearing Officer shall not practice family law before a conference officer or hearing officer employed by the 38th Judicial or before a Judge of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas. District. See Pa.R.C.P. 1920.51(a)(4).

Reports directly to the President Judge and Family Administrative Judge

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a family law practitioner.
  • Strong knowledge of family law and civil procedure.
  • Strong knowledge of economic and financial issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer and technology skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Office environment.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of movement necessary to carry out job duties.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
