About DTMB:

The Department of Technology, Management and Budget supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems.

About this position

Equipment Technician 8-E10:

To install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace building automation systems (BAS) and utility metering systems within state-owned and/or operated buildings throughout the East Region of the Building Operations Division. Includes system components such as thermostats, valves, pneumatic controls, direct digital controls, variable air volume controls, and hydronic and steam systems associated with heating, cooling, and ventilation. Creates and maintains partnerships with Facilities Supervisors and labor/trades staff for optimal customer service and efficiency while performing the above-mentioned duties within Southeast Michigan Psychiatric Hospital, Center for Forensic Psychiatry, and other East Region facilities as needed. Southeast Michigan Psychiatric Hospital and Center for Forensic Psychiatry encompass over 750,000 square feet of space.

Equipment Technician 12:

Employees in this position must have a high level of expertise to perform entire building automation system analysis, programming, commissioning, and modification to ensure tenant comfort and energy efficiency in all facilities managed by the Department of Technology, Management & Budget. Serves as the lead on commissioning projects and mentors other staff. Creates and maintains partnerships with Facilities Supervisors and labor/trades staff for optimal customer service and efficiency while performing the above-mentioned duties within Southeast Michigan Psychiatric Hospital, Center for Forensic Psychiatry, and other East Region facilities as needed. Southeast Michigan Psychiatric Hospital and Center for Forensic Psychiatry encompass over 750,000 square feet of space.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of an associate degree in electrical, electromechanical, or electronics engineering, computer science, engineering, or electronics technology.

Experience

Equipment Technician 8

Equipment Technician 9

One year of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment equivalent to an Equipment Technician 8.

Equipment Technician E10

Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical and electronic equipment equivalent to an Equipment Technician, including one year equivalent to an Equipment Technician 9.

Equipment Technician 12

Four years of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment equivalent to an Equipment Technician, including two years equivalent to an Equipment Technician E10 or one year equivalent to an Equipment Technician 11.

Alternate Education and Experience

Alternate Education and Experience Equipment Technician 8 - 12

Completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 24 semester (36 term) credits in any combination of course work in the following areas: electrical, electromechanical, or electronics engineering, electronics technology, computer science, highway or traffic technology, engineering, or mathematics may be substituted for the education requirement.

A certificate from a two year, post-secondary, technical program in electrical, electromechanical, or electronics technology may be substituted for the education requirement.

Four years of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment may be substituted for the education requirement.

Equipment Technician E10

Possession of a bachelor's degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits in job specific or related course work may be substituted for the education and experience requirements

Additional Requirements and Information

Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.
