    Job Summary

    The Environmental Specialist II independently manages environmental compliance for assigned assets. This position is responsible for implementing environmental compliance programs, supporting operational objectives, managing routine permitting and reporting activities, coordinating regulatory compliance, and partnering with Operations to ensure environmentally responsible and compliant operations.

    This role is a mid-level environmental professional who applies technical expertise through field experience, training, and collaboration with Operations and Environmental leadership. Works independently with limited supervision while exercising sound technical judgment on routine environmental compliance matters.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage environmental compliance programs across upstream oil and gas facilities.
    • Identify, evaluate, and manage routine environmental risks while implementing and tracking corrective actions.
    • Support environmental permitting activities, including permit applications, permit compliance, and air permitting documentation.
    • Conduct routine environmental inspections, field assessments, observations, and environmental compliance audits.
    • Perform environmental compliance activities, including soil and water sampling, wastewater monitoring, waste profiling, and environmental data collection.
    • Prepare, analyze, maintain, and verify environmental databases, inventories, compliance records, permit files, emissions inventories, and other environmental documentation.
    • Assist with regulatory reporting, agency inspections, regulatory notifications, and communications under the direction of senior environmental staff.
    • Support air quality compliance activities, including greenhouse gas, Quad O, emissions inventory development, and other required air quality reporting.
    • Support SPCC, stormwater, wastewater, waste management, and environmental compliance programs, including disposal coordination and compliance tracking.
    • Assist with spill response activities, incident investigations, corrective actions, and environmental due diligence projects.
    • Coordinate consultant activities and contractor support under the direction of senior environmental staff.
    • Communicate environmental requirements and provide environmental awareness and compliance training to Operations personnel as requested.
    • Participate in health, safety, and environmental initiatives and complete all required training.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    • Demonstrated knowledge of Texas Railroad Commission (RRC), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and applicable federal environmental programs related to midstream and carbon capture operations.
    • Working knowledge of environmental regulations with the ability to apply regulatory requirements under guidance.
    • Ability to communicate directly with regulatory agencies regarding routine compliance matters.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and job-related applications. Uses understanding of digital concepts to create basic digital tools.
    • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with the ability to independently manage multiple environmental compliance projects.  
    • Acts as the primary environmental resource for assigned Operations personnel and facilities.
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment.   
    • Willingness to learn new environmental regulations and compliance programs.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
    • Ability to perform field work safely.      
    • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills including proven ability to collaborate effectively with operations and environmental compliance teams.

    Education & Experience

    Required

    • Bachelor’s degree (relevant experience can be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree)
    • Requires a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience.
    • Preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or other related discipline.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    Location

    • This position is based out of the BKV Fort Worth, Texas office. Remote or hybrid work may be considered.
    • Some travel up to (20%) may be required.

    Working Conditions

    • Primarily office-based with standard business hours; extended hours may be required depending on business needs. May occasionally be exposed to distracting noise while sharing office space with others

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to operate a computer, telephone, and other office equipment.
    • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
