Description
The City of Norfolks Department of Utilities, Water Quality Division, is currently seeking a Environmental Specialist I to assist in managing environmental permits. This person conducts technical reviews of developments, provides information and support to the community, maintains reports, investigates illegal activity complaints, performs related duties as required, ensures fair and consistent implementation of FOG control requirements and enforcement, in accordance with the Sewer Use section of the City Code.

Education/Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a scientific profession or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a bachelors degree or equivalent.

Must be able to qualify for Special Police Commission within six (6) months of appointment (City of Norfolk Special Police Commission)
Work Hours: Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
