Job Description

The Environmental Remediation Field Technician performs environmental cleanup, hazardous material handling, industrial facility decontamination, waste removal, and remediation activities at commercial and industrial sites. This role supports hazardous waste cleanup, spill response, demolition support, tank cleanouts, confined space work, industrial cleaning projects, and environmental restoration activities while maintaining strict compliance with safety regulations and established procedures. The position is ideal for a safety-focused individual who is physically capable of demanding field work and experienced working in industrial environments where hazardous materials may be present.

Responsibilities

• Perform environmental cleanup and remediation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials at commercial, industrial, and remediation sites.
• Assist with containment, removal, and proper disposal of contaminated soil, liquids, sludge, debris, and industrial waste in accordance with regulatory requirements and company procedures.
• Clean and decontaminate manufacturing facilities, warehouses, plants, refineries, power plants, and other industrial locations impacted by spills, leaks, or contamination.
• Support emergency spill response activities involving chemicals, fuels, solvents, and other hazardous substances, including mobilizing on short notice when required.
• Assist with asbestos, lead, mold, and other regulated material abatement projects when properly trained and certified, following all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
• Operate vacuum trucks, hydro-excavation equipment, and other industrial cleaning equipment safely and efficiently to support remediation and maintenance projects.
• Perform pressure washing and high-pressure water blasting activities to clean surfaces, tanks, lines, and industrial equipment.
• Operate industrial cleaning vehicles and specialized remediation equipment, ensuring proper setup, safe operation, and adherence to operating procedures.
• Support tank cleaning, line jetting, and industrial maintenance projects, including preparing work areas and assisting with equipment positioning.
• Assist crews with equipment setup, operation, routine maintenance, and thorough job site cleanup upon project completion.
• Work in confined spaces when required, using appropriate certifications, respiratory protection, and safety protocols.
• Follow all health and safety guidelines, including use of personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe work practices in hazardous environments.
• Perform general labor and demolition support tasks related to environmental remediation, property damage restoration, and construction activities.
• Conduct basic environmental field work such as soil handling and sampling support, as directed by project supervisors.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks, report hazards, and ensure projects are completed safely and on schedule.

Essential Skills

• 2–5 years of experience working as an environmental technician or in environmental remediation, hazardous waste handling, industrial cleaning, construction, demolition, or emergency response.
• Demonstrated experience in environmental cleanup, environmental remediation, and environmental field work in industrial or construction settings.
• Ability to perform physically demanding general labor, including frequent standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and working in confined spaces.
• Experience handling hazardous materials and hazardous waste in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Knowledge of remediation construction, property damage restoration, and environmental cleanup processes.
• Ability to work safely in confined spaces, following Confined Space Entry procedures and guidelines.
• Strong safety focus and familiarity with OSHA standards, including 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER requirements.
• Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment such as vacuum trucks, hydro-excavation units, and high-pressure water blasting systems.
• Comfort working in industrial environments with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying weather conditions.
• Reliable transportation to report to the shop or go directly to job sites as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
• Confined Space Entry Certification preferred.
• Respiratory Protection Training preferred.
• Experience with forklift, skid steer, or other heavy equipment operation.
• Experience in environmental science, geology, wastewater, or related environmental disciplines is beneficial.
• Experience supporting demolition, remediation construction, and industrial maintenance projects.
• Ability to assist with soil sampling and basic environmental field measurements.
• Experience in hazmat cleanup, spill response, and property damage restoration.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Willingness to respond to emergency calls and work flexible hours when required by project needs.

Work Environment

Work takes place primarily at industrial facilities, chemical plants, manufacturing plants, refineries, power plants, and various remediation sites. The environment includes regular exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and changing weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors. The role involves frequent standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and working in confined spaces, with consistent use of personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection, protective clothing, and other safety gear. Most days begin at the shop, where crews mobilize to job sites; reliable transportation is required in case you need to travel directly to a site. Emergency response work may be required on short notice, and work hours can vary based on project demands and spill response needs. Attire is focused on safety and practicality, with appropriate workwear and PPE required to meet industrial and environmental safety standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenville, SC.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
