Position Summary

The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Housekeeping, Laundry, and Maintenance departments to ensure a clean, safe, sanitary, functional, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and employees. This position provides leadership and supervision to environmental services staff, coordinates facility maintenance activities, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, manages departmental resources, and promotes exceptional customer service and resident satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Oversight

  • Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate Housekeeping, Laundry, and Maintenance staff.
  • Coordinate daily departmental activities to ensure facility cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct routine staff meetings and provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and departmental coverage.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and retention of qualified employees.
  • Develop work schedules and assign duties based on operational needs.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration among departments.
  • Monitor departmental performance and implement improvements as needed.
  • Promote a positive work environment that supports employee engagement and accountability.

Housekeeping Operations

  • Oversee the cleaning and sanitizing of resident rooms, common areas, offices, dining rooms, and public spaces.
  • Ensure housekeeping tasks are completed according to established schedules and quality standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections to monitor cleanliness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure proper use and storage of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control policies and procedures.
  • Respond promptly to housekeeping concerns or service requests.

Laundry Operations

  • Supervise daily laundry operations, including washing, drying, folding, and distribution of linens and resident clothing.
  • Ensure proper handling of soiled linens in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Monitor linen inventory and ensure adequate supplies are available.
  • Oversee the maintenance and proper operation of laundry equipment.
  • Ensure laundry services are provided efficiently and accurately to residents and departments.

Maintenance & Facility Operations

  • Supervise maintenance staff and oversee routine building and equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure timely completion of maintenance work orders and repair requests.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections to identify maintenance, safety, and compliance concerns.
  • Perform or coordinate minor repairs, including painting, light carpentry, plumbing, and general upkeep.
  • Coordinate and oversee contracted services for specialized repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Monitor building systems and equipment to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.
  • Oversee grounds maintenance, snow removal, and exterior safety measures.
  • Maintain maintenance records, inspections, equipment logs, and service documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with life safety and environmental standards.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and facility regulations.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to support infection prevention and control efforts.
  • Ensure employees follow all safety procedures and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Conduct safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
  • Investigate and document accidents, incidents, and safety concerns.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities and facility drills.

Inventory & Budget Management

  • Monitor inventory and ordering of housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance supplies.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels while controlling departmental expenses.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting and cost management.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and replaced as needed.

Resident & Customer Service

  • Foster positive relationships with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to concerns and service requests.
  • Promote resident comfort, dignity, and satisfaction through quality environmental services.
  • Support the facility's mission and commitment to providing exceptional care and service.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in housekeeping, laundry services, maintenance, environmental services, or related fields preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Experience in long-term care, assisted living, healthcare, hospitality, or similar settings preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of housekeeping procedures, laundry operations, facility maintenance, infection control practices, and workplace safety regulations.
  • Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, and building maintenance practices preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to train, motivate, and develop staff.
  • Proficiency with basic computer software and scheduling systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, push, pull, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to and over 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work with cleaning products, laundry chemicals, and maintenance equipment safely.

Working Conditions

  • Healthcare environment with frequent interaction with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • May require occasional evening, weekend, holiday, or on-call responsibilities.
  • Exposure to cleaning agents, laundry chemicals, mechanical equipment, and infectious materials with appropriate safety precautions.
