East Mississippi State Hospital is a state-operated healthcare facility under the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, providing comprehensive inpatient psychiatric, residential, substance use disorder, and long-term care services to individuals across the region. About the Position
The Environmental Services Director provides executive leadership and administrative oversight for environmental services operations throughout East Mississippi State Hospital, including housekeeping, custodial services, and Laundry. The Director is responsible for the overall management, quality assurance, and operational effectiveness of environmental services programs and processes across EMSH facilities and units. The position provides leadership through assigned managers and supervisors who oversee day-to-day environmental services activities within their respective areas. The Environmental Services Director establishes department-wide standards, procedures, staffing strategies, performance expectations, and service priorities to ensure EMSH facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary, and professional condition. The Director also coordinates resources, evaluates service quality, supports infection-prevention and regulatory requirements, and provides policy and operational recommendations to hospital leadership.
What youll need to be Successful
To be successful in this position, the Environmental Services Director must demonstrate strong leadership, organization, accountability, operational judgment, and the ability to manage environmental services across a large and diverse healthcare system. The Director must be able to establish consistent standards, lead through managers and supervisors, evaluate departmental performance, address staffing and resource challenges, and maintain a strong focus on cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and infection prevention. Success also requires the ability to balance daily operational demands with long-term planning while maintaining productive relationships with clinical departments, support services, hospital leadership, and employees throughout EMSH.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a bachelor's degree and five to seven years of experience. Hiring agency preferred qualifications: Candidates should possess progressively responsible experience in environmental services, housekeeping, custodial operations, facilities support, laundry operations, healthcare support services, hospitality services, or a related operational environment.
