Environmental Services Aide - Trash Technician

Training and Education: Participating in training programs to stay updated on best practices in waste management, infection control, and occupational safety, and providing guidance and support to other staff members as needed. Emergency Response: Being prepared to respond to emergencies such as spills or accidents involving hazardous materials, following established procedures to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and patients.

Responsibilities/Job Description:

Fairview is looking to hire an Environmental Services (EVS) Aide – Trash Technician to join our team at Fairview Riverside University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. This is a 0.5 FTE position, working 40 hours every two weeks, and is represented by SEIU Local 113.

This position primarily focuses on trash and waste removal throughout the hospital, helping maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for our patients, visitors, and staff.

Schedule:

Day Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Every Other Weekend

• Week 1: Thursday and Friday
• Week 2: Monday, Saturday, and Sunday

 

Perform cleaning duties as assigned to keep the facility orderly, attractive, clean and sanitary. 

Responsibilities

• Performs cleaning assignments per department procedures and protocols
• Uses proper chemical dilution rations
• Follows infection control practices and procedures
• Follows proper procedure for assigned area
• Completes assignments in a timely manner
• Uses proper equipment and supplies for task
• Replenishes supplies
• Properly handles soiled and clean linens in assigned areas
• Properly handles and disposes of biohazardous and non-biohazardous waste
• Uses good body mechanics
• Uses safe work practices i.e. floor signs, use of gloves, follow hazard signs/symbols
• Remains flexible to change assignments as needed
• Contributes process improvement ideas/suggestions
• Properly documents work assignments
• Demonstrates proper emergency and security response
• Takes immediate action as required to assist with emergency codes
• Unlocks and secures access to building as directed
• Cleans emergency spills as needed
• Demonstrates proper use and care of equipment

• Waste Collection:
  • Regularly collecting and disposing of medical waste, including biohazardous materials such as used needles, soiled linens, and other potentially infectious materials. This involves adhering to strict safety protocols to prevent exposure to hazardous substances.
  • Sorting and Segregation: Properly sorting different types of waste, such as recyclable materials, general waste, and biohazardous waste, to ensure appropriate disposal methods are followed.
  • Compliance: Adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines governing waste disposal and sanitation in healthcare settings, including those set by local health authorities and environmental agencies.
  • Infection Control: Following established infection control protocols to minimize the risk of spreading infections or contaminating the environment while handling waste materials. 
  • Teamwork: Collaborating with other members of the environmental services team, as well as healthcare staff, to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and personnel.
  • Emergency Response: Being prepared to respond to emergencies such as spills or accidents involving hazardous materials, following established procedures to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and patients.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School diploma/GED
• Previous Housekeeping/Environmental Service experience

 

Qualifications: $21.96- $25.74 Hourly
