    Description

    Waste Connection's is looking for an Environmental Scientist to join our region team in The Woodlands, TX. In this position you will be a part of the Southern Region Compliance Team and be responsible for controlling company liability for special waste acceptance through review and approval processes; conducting internal environmental site reviews; identifying compliance process improvement initiatives and implementation of region-wide environmental protection programs and policies.

    Responsibilities include:


    + Organize, review and manage special waste profiles for multiple landfills using internal special waste tracking system; issue approvals and communicate with sales representatives, landfill management, and customers as necessary to work toward predetermined goals and objectives

    + Design and implement standards relating to waste acceptance processes for the Southern Region

    + Coordinate with special waste tracking system designer and compliance manager to implement tracking system improvements

    + Conduct internal environmental audits of various facility types: landfills, hauling companies, transfer stations, and material recovery facilities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

    + Assist site management and with compliance needs

    + Monitor emerging environmental regulatory issues/initiatives; participate in developing Region’s response to new or changing regulations


    The ideal candidate will have:


    + Understanding of special waste acceptance regulatory requirements

    + Ability to define problems, collect and interpret data and draw valid conclusions

    + Ability to interpret documents such as federal, state and local regulations, permits, operations and maintenance plans and procedure manuals

    + Ability to prepare reports at state or local levels

    + Ability to follow established procedures with minimal amount of direct supervision


    Minimum requirements:


    + 3-5 years Environmental field experience preferred.

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry or related field

    + Some direct work experience in one or more of the following area: Solid waste regulations, Landfill special waste acceptance, Environmental audits, site assessments and/or remediation
