Environmental & Permitting Manager

POSITION DETAILS

A Montana mining company is seeking an Environmental & Permitting Manager to lead environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and environmental planning for current and future development activities. This position reports to the President and works closely with project leadership, technical teams, regulatory agencies, and third-party consultants.

Location: Butte or Helena, MT. Helena-based employees must be available for frequent travel to Butte.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead environmental and land-use permitting strategy, including permit applications, schedules, regulatory milestones, and agency coordination.
• Interpret and apply federal, state, and local environmental, mining, land-use, air, water, and waste regulations.
• Oversee environmental compliance for exploration, drilling, geotechnical, hydrogeological, metallurgical, and site development activities.
• Coordinate environmental studies and consultants, including scopes of work, proposals, and deliverables.
• Identify permitting and environmental risks and develop practical solutions.
• Maintain compliance records and provide environmental guidance and project updates to management.
• Build productive relationships with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, consultants, and project teams.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of environmental permitting and compliance experience in mining or mineral exploration.
• Experience advancing permitting for mining or large-scale industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of federal and Montana environmental regulations, including NEPA and agencies such as BLM and USFS.
• Experience with reclamation or closure planning.
• Strong communication, project management, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
