Job Summary:
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for performing and supporting environmental, compliance, and operational analytical testing in a laboratory setting. This role requires a strong scientific background, proficiency in analytical laboratory techniques, and a dedication to safety, quality, and operational excellence. The specialist will work with various analytical methods and instrumentation to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
Responsibilities:
- Perform environmental, compliance, and operational analytical testing following established laboratory procedures.
- Maintain safe working conditions by identifying, reporting, and correcting unsafe practices.
- Conduct laboratory analyses using approved methods and instrumentation.
- Apply quality control protocols to ensure compliance with testing standards.
- Utilize and interpret EPA, ASTM, Standard Methods, and other reference standards.
- Follow and develop technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent laboratory analysis.
- Evaluate and verify analytical data for accuracy and completeness.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with analytical instrumentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and customers effectively.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities to meet deadlines.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory performance.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 15 semester hours of chemistry coursework.
- Knowledge of EPA, ASTM, Standard Methods, and other analytical reference standards.
- Ability to understand and execute technical laboratory procedures and methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective teamwork and customer interaction.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and adapt.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience with analytical reference methods and laboratory instrumentation.
- Knowledge of quality control requirements for analytical methods.
- Hands-on experience with Gas Chromatography (GC) instrumentation.
- Previous experience in an environmental or analytical laboratory setting.
- Competencies in technical writing, quality assurance, customer focus, and team collaboration.
