Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

Talent Responsibilities

Summary of Key responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with all applicable EHS laws, regulations, and company policies, ensuring our workplace meets or exceeds industry standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Drive continuous improvement by implementing corrective and preventive actions to address hazards and close gaps in safety protocols.
  • Lead incident investigations with a focus on root cause analysis (RCA), ensuring thorough reporting and actionable insights to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and enforce safety protocols that protect employees and operations.
  • Maintain m EHS records, including permits, training logs, inspection reports, and risk assessments, to ensure transparency and audit readiness.
  • Design and deliver EHS training programs for employees and contractors, fostering a culture of safety awareness and reinforcing best practices.
  • Monitor environmental compliance, including waste management, and chemical handling.
  • Coordinating Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training audits and fostering collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Reinforce safe work practices by collaborating with departments to integrate EHS principles into operational processes.
  • Champion ergonomic standards to reduce workplace injuries and enhance employee well-being.
  • Supervise fire safety and emergency response drills, ensuring preparedness and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Oversee equipment inspections, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and safety signage to ensure operational safety and regulatory adherence.
  • Manage hazmat disposal, storage, and hazard communication, including SDS sheets, to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
  • Developing environmental controls and ISO14001 objectives and projects.

Boundaries of responsibilities and interaction with others

  • Works under the direction of the EHS Manager or Operations leadership.
  • Collaborates closely with Manufacturing, Facilities, Operations, Quality, and HR teams.
  • Supports supervisors and managers in enforcing EHS compliance and accountability.
  • Provides guidance and coordination for employees and contractors regarding safety practices.
  • Does not have direct supervisory authority but influences cross-functional teams to achieve compliance and safety objectives.
  • Escalates significant risks, compliance issues, or incidents to management as required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred to support diverse teams and stakeholders.

Talent Profile

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and industrial safety practices.
  • Experience with risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of hazardous material handling, waste management, and environmental programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of ISO 14001 AND AS9100 / EN9100 standards is a plus.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification (preferred).
  • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor or Implementer certification (preferred).
