    A day in this role

You start on the floor with a daily walk-through, verifying that jobs are set up safely and that yesterday’s corrective actions are closed. Mid-morning, you’re coaching supervisors on safe work procedures and leading a short, high-impact toolbox talk. After lunch, you review incident data, prepare a clear report for leadership, and plan a targeted audit of lab, warehouse, and office areas. When questions come in from employees, you respond quickly and clearly. If an incident occurs, you lead the response, remain calm, investigate the root causes, and initiate a strategic corrective plan.

    What you’ll do

    • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs tailored to a high-volume, heavy manufacturing environment.
    • Track and interpret OSHA and other state/federal regulations; ensure ongoing compliance and readiness for inspections.
    • Lead engaging safety meetings and trainings that build strong habits and procedural knowledge.
    • Continuously identify workplace hazards and recommend practical improvements to eliminate or mitigate risk.
    • Develop concise reports on health and safety issues; present findings and recommendations to the CEO or General Manager.
    • Serve as a trusted resource for employee safety inquiries and guidance.
    • Respond rapidly to on-site emergencies and accidents; lead incident investigations and document outcomes.
    • Analyze root causes of accidents/near-misses and execute strategic corrective and preventive actions.
    • Conduct daily oversight to verify compliance with safety standards across all activities.
    • Plan and conduct formal audits in labs, production areas, warehouses, and offices.
    • Recruit, hire, and train additional safety personnel to expand auditing and oversight capacity.

    What you bring

    • Clear, confident communication skills to explain safety procedures and influence safe behaviors.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
    • Expert knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements, with the creativity to apply them effectively on the shop floor.
    • Proven leadership, analytical thinking, and practical problem-solving capabilities.
    • Familiarity with the machinery, tools, and equipment used in heavy manufacturing and related environments.
    • Vigilance and situational awareness at all times, especially during emergencies.

    Education and credentials

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management, or a related field (required).
    • Certificate in Safety Management (CSM) (required).
    • Formal coursework/training in occupational safety requirements and OSHA guidelines (required).

    Work environment

    • Work spans office settings, research laboratories, and factory warehouses.
    • Hazardous materials may be present; strict adherence to safe work practices is essential.
    • Some incidents can be high-stress; poise and rapid response are critical.
    • Standard shifts are eight hours; schedules may rotate between days and nights based on business needs.
    • Off-hours emergency response may be required.
