Environmental Health and Safety Technician

Pay Range: $20.00hr - $25.00hr

Job Overview:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) function focuses on the health and safety of plant employees through the prevention of accidents, illnesses, and injuries, as well as the protection of the environment. This role encompasses fire safety, employee health, security, and environmental protection. Plant industrial hygiene is addressed through the recognition, evaluation, and control of environmental factors or stresses which may cause sickness, impaired health, or discomfort among employees. The EHS Technician will assist with a variety of environmental, safety, and industrial hygiene training, programs, auditing, reporting, projects, and monitoring.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with accident and incident investigation.
• Maintain files and records pertaining to environmental, safety, and industrial hygiene.
• Assist with the plant safety committee.
• Assist management, supervisors, and training technicians in preparing a variety of EHS presentations.
• Keep informed on current environmental, health, and safety regulations and legislation and recommend policy changes.
• Conduct frequent EHS tours and audits of all plant areas and make recommendations for corrective actions for all environmental, safety, and health problems noted.
• Review the installation and modification of all equipment and processes for EHS issues.
• Maintain the plant fire protection system.
• Assist with maintaining the plant EHS database.
• Assist with management of hazardous waste program, including pickups, disposals, and preparing for shipments.
• Conduct a variety of EHS training including Lockout/Tagout and timely environmental training.
• Monitor contractor compliance with various applicable EHS laws and standards.
• Complete various environmental reports in a timely manner.
• Responsible for a variety of timely environmental projects.
• Assist with the improvement of the plant's recycling efforts.
• Assist with a variety of activities aimed at maintaining compliance with the plant's various environmental permits.
• Perform ergonomic evaluations and assessments.

Major Responsibilities:

• Major duties include interfacing with department managers and supervisors in reducing accidents, injuries, and property damage at the plant as well as protecting the environment.
• Assure the plant is in compliance with various environmental permits and applicable regulations.
• Work with Division EHS to maintain an active EHS program.
• Maintain a safe and *** working environment for anyone entering the site, including contractors, visitors, and contract employees.

Requirements:

• High School equivalent with 2-3 years of work experience or 2-3 years of experience in the EHS field.
• Background with a Fire Department or Rescue squad is preferred for the technician focused on the safety area.
• Experience with spreadsheets and algebra is preferred.
• Adept at using a computer.

Background:

• Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards, including MIOSHA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, MDEQ, etc.
