Environmental Engineer

Location Middletown OHCleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for an Environmental Engineer at our Middletown Ohio plant. The Environmental Engineer is responsible for analyzing assessing interpreting and evaluating regulatory compliance within the plant. This position will concentrate on compliance with RCRA regulations underground injection control regulations and assume primary duties related to the plants ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. The position will require a well-developed knowledge of the steelmaking process. This position provides environmental direction supports record keeping supports permitting and planning and conducts routine audits of the various operating units. The Environmental Engineer will also address environmental emergencies and be required to interact with regulatory inspectors.Summary of ResponsibilitiesPerforms internal environmental audits of the plant and provides regulatory guidance to plant management regarding regulatory compliance.Drafts the application for plant environmental operating permits.Assesses the impact of regulatory changes that affect plant operations.Provides direction and assistance to maintenance and operating departments for implementing new regulatory requirements.Interacts with State and Federal regulatory agencies with regard to environmental operating permits inspections and other regulatory matters.Audits and maintains the ISO 14001 Environmental Management system.Prepares and submits required environmental reports.Other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsBachelors degree in Chemical Environmental Civil or related Engineering.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Strong computer skills proficiency in Microsoft Office products.Must be able to support a 247 manufacturing operation. Occasional after-hours and on-call support may be required.Preferred QualificationsCandidates with at least three 3 years of relevant professional experience are preferred.Environmental Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.Experience with environmental permitting and regulatory reporting.Direct interaction with EPA state environmental agencies or local regulators.ISO 14001 Environmental Management System experience.Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America.
