Description

Clearance: Active Secret with Tier 5 (IT-I, Critical Sensitive) eligibility
Work Schedule: On-site, 5 days/week.
 

Position Overview:
Leads the management of virtualized infrastructure spanning on-premises data centers and DoD/commercial cloud platforms (private, public, and hybrid). Drives implementation and upgrades of hosts, hypervisors, and virtual application software; ensures maximum availability, robust security, and strong integrity of all virtual resources; proactively monitors, alerts, and remediates issues; applies timely patches to development, test, pre-production, and production environments; serves as the principal troubleshooter for hosts, hypervisors, and virtual infrastructure; maintains comprehensive, current system documentation; and champions best practices in capacity planning, performance optimization, and disaster recovery.

Job Responsibilities

  • Administer VMware vSphere and vCenter Server 8.x/9.x: perform installations, upgrades, patching, resource pool management, DRS and Storage DRS, manage standard/distributed switches, host and storage clusters, configure role-based access, identity sources, certificates, licensing, and high availability.
  • Manage ESXi 8.x/9.x hosts: oversee hypervisor installations and upgrades, networking and storage (vSAN, SAN, datastores, LUNs), host profiles, lockdown modes, and coordinate physical racking/hardware upgrades for new projects and tech refreshes.
  • Administer vSAN 8.x/9.x hyper-converged infrastructure (OSA/ESA): manage storage policies, encryption, KMS, file services, and fault tolerance.
  • Provide technical support for Cisco UCS (B, C, X Series, UCS Mini), Cisco HyperFlex, and Dell PowerEdge hardware platforms.
  • Provision and manage virtual machines across VMware, Microsoft Azure, AWS, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and Google Cloud Platform: perform OVF/OVA deployments, snapshots, migrations, cloning, template management, and performance tuning.
  • Support DLA cloud infrastructure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS): enable dynamic provisioning, optimize costs (identify idle/over-provisioned resources, manage Reserved Instances, leverage savings plans), and implement continuous monitoring with automated alerts.
  • Support VMware Aria Suite (Automation, Orchestrator, Operations-including Logs and Networks, Suite Lifecycle) and VMware Cloud Foundation to deliver integrated management and operational efficiency.
  • Automate routine tasks using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, PowerShell, Python, YAML templates, and API calls; ensure all scripts are maintained in the shared DLA team repository for collaboration and version control.
  • Perform and document daily system health checks; categorize anomalies by severity and escalate per DLA protocols.
  • Manage ServiceNow incidents, tickets, change requests, and work orders in the J64 Virtualization Platform Services queue, ensuring prompt resolution within DLA performance thresholds.
  • Ensure ESXi hosts, vCenter, and supporting applications comply with DISA STIGs and DLA Information Assurance requirements; proactively monitor logs for anomalies and rapidly remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Provide mission-critical outage support, coordinating vendor case management from incident initiation through resolution.
  • Participate in after-hours callback rotation, remain reachable by phone, and deliver support within two hours as required.
  • Attend required staff and project meetings; provide on-the-job and formal training to DLA staff as needed.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years' progressive experience managing and maintaining virtualized server environments and hosted applications.
  • At least two (2) of those years must include direct management of large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects (e.g., network, virtualization, systems administration) involving virtual servers.
  • Completed Tier 5 / SSBI investigation for High Risk, Critical Sensitive (IT-I) designation
  • Active SECRET security clearance (or higher).
  • Current DoD 8570/8140 baseline certification at IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, GSEC, SSCP, CND, GICSP; IAT Level III certifications such as CASP+ or CISSP are also accepted).
  • Computing Environment certification: DoD 8570/8140-approved VMware certification (VCP-DCV 2020 or newer, or VCAP 2020 or newer).
  • Willingness to participate in after-hours callback support and provide a two-hour response time as needed.
  • Ability to travel as approved by the Contracting Officer
  • Representative (COR).

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Current or recent experience supporting DLA J6 or other DoD enterprise virtualization, including NIPRNET and SIPRNET environments.
  • Hands-on experience with vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and vSAN 8.x, with exposure to version 9.x and VMware Cloud Foundation.
  • Experience administering VMware Aria Suite (formerly vRealize).
  • Experience working with Cisco UCS, HyperFlex, and Dell PowerEdge hardware platforms.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation utilizing PowerShell/PowerCLI, Python, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Experience implementing DISA STIGs and remediating ACAS vulnerabilities within virtualized environments.
  • Experience with ServiceNow incident and change management workflows.
