Position SummaryAn established CPA firm in the Chicago western suburbs is seeking an experienced Enrolled Agent (EA) / Senior Tax Accountant to join its tax team.The ideal candidate will have strong experience preparing individual and business tax returns and will be comfortable communicating directly with clients, resolving tax notices, and assisting with year-round tax planning.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tax professional who wants to work closely with clients and firm leadership in a smaller, relationship-focused CPA firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns.
- Prepare individual, partnership, S Corporation, and C Corporation returns.
- Prepare extensions and quarterly estimated tax calculations.
- Assist clients with year-round tax planning.
- Respond to IRS and state tax notices.
- Obtain and analyze IRS transcripts when necessary.
- Represent clients before the IRS as permitted under the EA credential.
- Assist clients with examinations, collections, payment arrangements, and other tax matters.
- Research federal and state tax questions.
- Communicate directly with individual and business clients.
- Review client financial information and supporting tax documentation.
- Assist with bookkeeping and accounting matters when needed.
- Maintain accurate client records and meet filing deadlines.
- Work with CPAs and firm leadership on complex tax matters.
Qualifications
- Active Enrolled Agent (EA) credential.
- Active PTIN.
- 3+ years of professional tax preparation experience; public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Strong experience with Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S, and 1120.
- Experience handling IRS and state notices.
- Strong understanding of federal and state taxation.
- Experience with professional tax preparation software.
- QuickBooks experience preferred.
- Strong client communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple tax engagements and deadlines.
