They obtain and validate insurance and financial information, secure necessary precertifications, and provide benefits overviews to patients before treatment.
The role involves direct contact with patients, families, providers, nurses, social workers, and pharmacies.
Core duties include processing authorizations for medical and pharmacy benefits, following up on reauthorizations, coordinating infusion and medication shipping activities, and collaborating with pharmacy teams for performance and quality improvements.
Requirements include a high school diploma or GED (bachelor’s preferred), a registered pharmacy technician license, at least 1-2 years of pharmacy technician or similar experience, strong communication and organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes.
