River Forest Community School Corporation is seeking a highly motivated, dedicated, and
enthusiastic EL teacher to become part of a team of outstanding educators. The position involves
collaboration with the other teachers within the middle and high school grade levels and a
commitment to student achievement.
EL Teachers instruct students whose first language is not English. The goal is to teach the English
Language Proficiency Standard Course of Study. The EL Teacher (https://100hires.com/esl
teacher-job-description.html) instructs English language learners to read, speak, listen, and write
English, so they can achieve grade-level proficiency in all academic areas. The EL Teacher
(https://100hires.com/esl-teacher-job-description.html) must be highly knowledgeable in the content
and structure of the English language as well as the methodology for teaching English to non-native
speakers.
Work with identified EL students in grades 6-12 to improve English proficiency through
push-in and pull-out programming
Support students at all levels of language development
Demonstrate knowledge of WIDA standards and ACCESS testing/score
interpretation
Assist with WIDA planning and administration
Create and implement ILPs and language goals for all EL students in the district
Work with general education teachers to adapt instructional resources and implement
accommodations
Participate in collaborative planning with general education teachers
Use their knowledge of language development to coach colleagues
Advocate for students and teach them to advocate for
themselves
Empower students through scaffolding and teaching learning strategies
Communicate regularly with parents and families about student performance and behavior
Other Duties:
Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum
development meetings and other professional activities
Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including
parent/teacher conferences, student clubs and after-school activities
Creates an effective learning environment through functional and language rich
displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other administrator

Educational Requirements
A bachelors degree or higher in elementary education or a related field from an

Must possess a valid English Learner Endorsement or be willing to attend classes to
earn this endorsement through an accredited program
