Working Title English Faculty Position Status Full Time Department School of Liberal Arts and Education General Summary

The in-person English faculty member is responsible for teaching all assigned courses and contributing to the department's ongoing efforts to support student success, strengthen academic achievement, and advance Odessa College's mission. The faculty member fosters an engaging learning environment that promotes strong communication skills, critical thinking, and lifelong learning, while collaborating with colleagues to enhance program effectiveness and support student achievement across all instructional settings.

Specific Position Duties

  • Teach assigned courses within the English curriculum.
  • Teach face-to-face, web, hybrid, and ITV classes as assigned, utilizing a variety of instructional technologies, including Tegrity.
  • Teach CollegeNOW (Dual Credit) courses at designated locations throughout the West Texas area.
  • Assist with recruitment, advising, and retention efforts and actively participate in departmental and campus-wide committees.
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach all courses in the English curriculum, including sophomore survey courses in American, British, and World Literature; freshman literature genre courses; freshman composition; and developmental English courses carrying institutional credit only.
  • Maintain current knowledge and professional competency in the discipline.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to teach a variety of courses across multiple modalities, schedules, locations, and delivery methods as needed and reasonably assigned by the College.
  • Design and deliver appropriately rigorous coursework that supports student learning and helps students achieve their full academic potential.
  • Provide students with clear written expectations, including syllabi, course policies, assignment instructions, and grading criteria.
  • Develop and administer assessments aligned with course objectives, including comprehensive final examinations that measure overall mastery of learning outcomes.
  • Foster an instructional environment that affirms the worth and dignity of all students and supports the right of all students to learn.
  • Maintain an effective learning and assessment environment-whether in-person, hybrid, or online-that encourages the free exchange of ideas while upholding academic integrity and objectivity.
  • Prepare thoroughly for all instructional activities and arrive promptly for classes, labs, and other scheduled obligations.
  • Deliver course content in a clear, organized, and accessible manner.
  • Respond to student inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner through class interaction, office hours, email, and other appropriate communication channels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree with 18 or more graduate hours in English from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Experience in teaching composition in a computer-based environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students from a wide spectrum of ages including high school students who are enrolled in dual credit classes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence.
