Job Summary:

The Engineering Technologist II provides technical and administrative support for transmission outage coordination, substation operations, and capital project execution within the Energy Control Center (ECC). This role assists with planning, scheduling, and coordinating transmission and substation outages required to support construction, maintenance, reliability, and system improvement projects.

The successful candidate will apply foundational knowledge of transmission systems, substation equipment, protection and control concepts, switching practices, and outage coordination processes while working closely with engineers, project managers, system operators, field personnel, and contractors.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Support coordination of transmission and substation outages for capital construction, maintenance, system improvement, and reliability projects.
Assist with reviewing outage requests to ensure accurate scheduling and execution of planned work.
Maintain and communicate outage schedules with internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with engineering, Energy Control Center personnel, project management, field operations, and contractors to support outage planning and execution.
Review transmission system one-line diagrams, relay applications, operating procedures, and switching instructions to support outage coordination activities.
Assist in evaluating system impacts associated with planned outages and identify potential scheduling conflicts.
Support multiple outage requests and project priorities while maintaining attention to detail and schedule accuracy.
Maintain outage documentation, records, tracking systems, and project coordination logs.
Ensure work is performed in accordance with company operating practices, safety standards, and applicable procedures.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and communicate recommendations to leadership and team members.
Support emergency and priority outage requests as required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Associate degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline; equivalent utility industry experience may be considered.
Minimum of 2 to 4 years of relevant experience in transmission, substation operations, protection and control, system operations, outage coordination, utility design, or engineering support.
Ability to read and interpret transmission and substation one-line (single-line) diagrams.

Basic knowledge of major substation equipment, including:

  • Circuit Breakers
  • Disconnect Switches
  • Power Transformers
  • PTs/CCVTs
  • Current Transformers (CTs)

Basic understanding of transmission and substation protection schemes.
Experience interpreting technical procedures, switching instructions, and operating practices.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a team-oriented environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

Utility, substation, or transmission field experience.
Exposure to relay, protection and control, or system operations environments.
Experience supporting outage planning or coordination activities.
Familiarity with iTOA or similar outage management systems.
Knowledge of Energy Control Center operations and transmission switching practices.
Experience supporting transmission, substation, or capital improvement projects.
Understanding of utility safety, reliability, and operational requirements.

Additional Information

Primarily office-based position with occasional travel to substations, field locations, and company facilities as needed.
Supports transmission and substation capital projects through outage planning and coordination activities.
Requires the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
