General Description
Help keep Green Bay moving safely and efficiently! The City of Green Bay is looking for an Engineering Technician (Traffic) to support traffic engineering and operations through traffic inspections, traffic control reviews, drafting, traffic engineering calculation and design, permit coordination, and special event planning.
Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Hiring Range: $34.33-37.35 per hour
No residency requirement.

Examples of Duties
- Performs basic traffic engineering calculations and design.
- Determines minimum traffic control measures for municipal and permit construction projects.
- Reviews and issues right-of-way obstruction permits and traffic control plans.
- Conducts inspections of traffic signage and facilities, and prepares reports.
- Plans, reviews and coordinates traffic control for special events.
- Prepares routine traffic engineering studies and reports, including data collection, speed studies, traffic control warrants, and traffic crash studies.
- Prepares contract specifications, quantity estimates and contract payments.
- Performs manual, computer aided design (CAD), and SignCAD drafting assignments in office as directed.
- Reviews development site plans.
- Prepares and/or administers public works contracts of moderate difficulty.
- Assists with tracking and reporting compliance with federal and state railroad regulations.
- Assists with Traffic, Bicycle, & Pedestrian Commission meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
- Five years related experience.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
- A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and materials of public works and traffic related projects. Basic understanding of civil engineering principles and practices related to public works and traffic related projects. Knowledge of the principles and practices of site and construction surveying. Knowledge and experience in the operation of various traffic counting equipment used by the Public Works Department.
- Good computer skills including experience with CAD, word processing and spreadsheet software. Good record keeping and problem-solving skills. Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and members of the public and private sectors. Ability to work the required hours of the position.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform the following activities:
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping.
- Ability to focus for long periods of time on projects.
- Ability to reach and climb.
- Ability to climb and hike in rough terrain.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions and worksite conditions.
