Job Title: Engineering Technician

Job Description

The Engineering Technician operates and maintains test benches in a research and development engineering lab, supporting the testing and validation of mechanical and hydraulic systems. This role performs structural, integrity, end-of-life, and efficiency tests, troubleshoots test apparatus, and ensures accurate documentation of results. The Engineering Technician contributes to the development of new technologies and products, supports modifications to existing products, and helps meet technical requirements within defined time and cost constraints while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate test benches in the R&D engineering lab to conduct structural, integrity, end-of-life, and efficiency tests on filters and related components.
  • Set up and conduct performance tests independently using established standardized formats and procedures to determine performance ratings.
  • Troubleshoot test apparatus, including connecting filters to test benches, replacing pumps, replacing seals, and starting tests as required.
  • Oversee the mechanical upkeep and basic calibration of test benches and related equipment to ensure reliable and accurate test results.
  • Participate in the development of new technology and new products, and support modifications to existing products to meet technical requirements within time and cost constraints.
  • Consult with test requestors and lab leadership to determine appropriate testing methods and understand desired outcomes for standard products.
  • Prepare accurate, complete test data, records, and documentation for interpretation and analysis by engineering and technical teams.
  • Identify issues with test equipment and clearly communicate them to more senior technicians or supervisors for resolution.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and repeatability of testing activities.
  • Assist with equipment calibration and perform basic test bench maintenance under supervision.
  • Keep lab leadership informed of testing activity, progress, and challenges on an ongoing basis.
  • Perform operational lab duties as needed or as assigned, supporting smooth day-to-day lab operations.
  • Effectively meet established deadlines and manage multiple testing tasks while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with lab procedures and safety practices.

Essential Skills

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in a technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience as a technician or in a related technical field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of test equipment and test standards used in mechanical and hydraulic testing.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude, including hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies and hydraulic systems.
  • Fundamental understanding of measurement and control systems, including basic calibration practices.
  • Ability to understand cause-and-effect relationships within automated control systems.
  • Proficient computer literacy skills, including experience with MS Office applications such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and test bench equipment issues.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and accurately to individuals and small groups, and to adapt technical information for different audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness in handling data, reports, and records.
  • Good organization skills with the ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, recognize the importance of common goals, and contribute to team success.
  • Consistent professional conduct in the lab and during interactions with colleagues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with R&D environments and mechanical testing is beneficial.
  • Experience in hydraulics, hydraulic assembly, valves, and mechanical systems is advantageous.
  • Exposure to engineering or automotive manufacturing environments is a plus.
  • Comfort with testing-related software and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to meet more complex testing requirements with guidance.
  • Interest in career development, skill building, and contributing ideas to improve testing processes and products

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of MINNEAPOLIS, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
