What to Expect
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated process development technician for supporting the Engineering Staff in the development and production of lab and pilot scale advanced energy storage technology projects and programs. The position is very hands-on and will require operation of test equipment and pilot production equipment used to produce energy storage devices. The successful candidate will work with and take direction from engineers in the research group supporting the overall objectives of the development program. A wide range of activities will make up this role with hands-on work being a dominant portion of the job. Attention to detail, along with the strong analytical skills acquired, will be an essential aspect of the job responsibilities. Exceptional communication abilities and the adaptability to engage with cross-functional technical teams are imperative.
The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our core products. What You'll Do
Execute on laboratory duties as required by engineering staff
Conduct electrode processing techniques and methods at the lab or pilot scale level that will result in scalability for higher volume production
Build test suites aimed at uncovering the potential of materials and process combinations
Compile experimental data. Analyze data using statistical technique. Analyze trends or patterns to assist the Engineer in identifying suitable limits and variables for enhancing processes and ensuring scalability
Document, identify and review technical requirements with engineering staff to ensure compatibility of processing methods developed with materials and other considerations for pilot scale manufacturing
Perform processing equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and identify/procure replacement parts
What You'll Bring
Minimum 2 years of experience as an engineering technician in an energy technology or materials process development environment
Familiarity with data analysis software is advantageous (Excel, JMP, etc.)
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Experience in handling battery materials and/or chemicals is preferred
Able to work a flexible schedule
Demonstrated capabilities in operating various equipment, including mixers, web processing, and analytical tools
Practical hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment of new technology development
Able to comprehend and execute directions independently with minimal guidance
Excellent communication skills with a passion for product and process improvement
Capable of advancing progress through effective execution of job responsibilities
