Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:
The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting for an Engineering Technician I or Engineering Technician II. Selection is based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. This position is in the Technical Services and Asset Management group within the Public Works Operations Division.
Responsibilities for both classifications include:
Engineering Technician I Pay Range G22 $49,504.00 - $77,147.20
The Engineering Tech I performs a variety of GIS-related tasks under the direct oversight of an Engineering Technician III or higher-level position. Work is performed in accordance with established procedures and may include, but is not limited to:
Engineering Technician II Pay Range G24 $54,579.20 - $85,051.20
The Engineering Tech II performs a variety of GIS-related tasks of a moderately complex nature that are regularly reviewed by an Engineering Technician III or higher-level position. Representative duties include, but are not limited to:
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Must have a valid VA or NC Driver’s License
This position is ALPHA I and is required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes, snow, etc.).

Minimum Requirements:
Engineering Tech I: Minimum Qualifications: High school or GED plus two (2) years’ experience in a related field such as civil engineering, drafting, surveying, or planning; demonstrated CADD/GIS/computer experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and formal training that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Engineering Tech II: Minimum Qualifications: High school or GED plus five (5) years’ experience in a field associated with civil engineering, drafting, surveying, or planning; demonstrated CADD/GIS/computer experience, or any equivalent combinations of experience and formal training that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
