Description

Job Title: Engineering Technician

Job Description

The Engineering Technician supports accelerated product durability testing in a highly hands-on lab environment. In this role, you assemble and disassemble vehicle components, build and wire test fixtures, and execute a variety of mechanical and electrical tests. You work closely with engineers and other technicians to identify issues, implement solutions quickly, and continuously develop new technical skills. This position offers a long-term career path and encourages curiosity, learning, and personal growth.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and execute durability tests, including test preparation, inspections, maintenance, and retrofits of test equipment and components.
  • Document and report issues identified during tests or inspections in a clear and organized manner.
  • Collaborate with engineers to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues discovered during testing.
  • Support engineers with instrumentation setup and data acquisition, including connection and verification of sensors and DAQ systems.
  • Assist and learn from other technicians and engineers to expand technical knowledge and improve testing practices.
  • Assemble, wire, and validate test fixtures, ensuring proper mechanical integrity and electrical connections.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams to build and troubleshoot electrical circuits and test setups.
  • Operate fabrication equipment such as drills and band saws to modify or create test components and fixtures.
  • Use measurement tools including multimeters, force gauges, torque wrenches, and calipers to verify test conditions and component performance.
  • Apply Ohm's law and basic electrical principles when working with low-voltage components and circuits.
  • Maintain organized test setups, tools, and documentation to support efficient lab operations.
  • Communicate clearly with team members using excellent written and verbal communication skills to share findings, status updates, and recommendations.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience working with mechanical and electrical systems in a lab, workshop, or similar environment.
  • Ability to use basic measurement tools such as calipers, digital multimeters, data acquisition systems (DAQs), force gauges, and torque wrenches.
  • Working knowledge of Ohm's law and basic electrical theory when dealing with low-voltage components.
  • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams for assembly and troubleshooting of electrical circuits.
  • Experience working with low-voltage electrical components and related test setups.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and identify root causes of issues during testing.
  • Experience with measurement tools including multi-meters, force gauges, and torque wrenches.
  • Basic experience with MS Office tools, including Outlook, Excel, and Word, for documentation and communication.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills to interpret test results and resolve technical issues.
  • Strong organization skills to manage multiple tests, tools, and documentation effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document findings and collaborate with the team.
  • Comfort using hand tools and power tools in a safe and controlled manner.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CAN communication in automotive or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with thermal testing or working around environmental test chambers.
  • Experience building and wiring custom test fixtures for mechanical and electrical testing.
  • Experience in using fabrication equipment such as drills and band saws for test setup and component modification.
  • Interest in accelerated product durability testing and validation of vehicle components.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and desire to learn new technologies, tools, and testing methods.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering and technician team.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment where test requirements and setups can change quickly.

Work Environment

The role is based primarily in a lab environment that includes a dedicated desk within the lab space. You work directly next to test chambers, instrumentation, and various mechanical and electrical equipment. The lab is undergoing some construction, so you operate in a dynamic setting where new equipment and configurations may be introduced. You regularly use hand tools, power tools, fabrication equipment such as drills and band saws, and a range of measurement devices. The environment encourages asking questions, experimenting, and continuous learning, offering a long-term career path for technicians who enjoy hands-on work and technical growth.
