Job Title: Engineering Technician
Location: San Diego, CA (Onsite)
Duration: 6 months

We are seeking a skilled Engineering Technician to support hardware development, prototyping, testing, and rework activities within a fast-paced engineering environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with hardware, mechanical, component, and manufacturing engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, perform system modifications, build prototype hardware, and support the development of next-generation technology platforms.

This role requires strong hands-on experience with electronic and mechanical assembly, PCB rework, troubleshooting, and fabrication, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with global engineering teams across the United States, India, and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of hardware failures and rework issues.
  • Support the build, assembly, validation, and maintenance of engineering reference devices and test platforms.
  • Develop and document rework instructions, assembly procedures, and engineering processes.
  • Prepare, load, solder, modify, and repair printed circuit boards (PCBs) and circuit card assemblies (CCAs).
  • Perform mechanical assembly and integration of rack systems, chassis, test fixtures, and prototype devices.
  • Read, interpret, and work from schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Fabricate wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and prototype hardware components.
  • Assist in printed wiring board (PWB) layout design and documentation activities.
  • Support laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Operate soldering stations, chip rework equipment, SMT equipment, CNC machines, and 3D printers.
  • Collaborate with hardware, mechanical, component, sourcing, and program management teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Evaluate materials, manufacturing techniques, and assembly processes for reliability and performance.
  • Support multiple engineering projects simultaneously while meeting aggressive development schedules.
  • Utilize AI-enabled tools and technologies to improve productivity, troubleshooting efficiency, and workflow optimization.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree, technical certification, or pursuit/completion of a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in electronic and/or mechanical assembly, hardware prototyping, or engineering technician roles.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience using assembly equipment and tools, including soldering irons, crimpers, heat guns, and precision hand tools.
  • 1+ years of experience fabricating wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and related hardware.
  • Strong soldering, PCB rework, and electronic troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience assembling and disassembling complex electronic devices and systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, wire lists, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot hardware systems independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Soldering and/or ESD certification.
  • Experience with Creo CAD or similar CAD design tools.
  • Desktop CNC programming and SMT machine programming experience.
  • Knowledge of PCB/PWB design principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Experience designing or supporting circuit boards, test fixtures, and cable assemblies.
  • Understanding of microprocessors, microcontrollers, sensors, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), USB, video interfaces, and camera systems.
  • Experience with industrial automation, factory hardware, industrial networking protocols, functional safety standards, and redundant systems.
  • Exposure to RF, analog, mixed-signal, and digital hardware environments.

The successful candidate will operate as a member of the Corporate Engineering Services organization team. Responsibilities include working with onsite engineering teams troubleshooting HW issues & onsite hardware and system rework. Prepares, loads and solders printed circuit boards, and performs rework and modifications. Conduct product build and ensure project schedules are met.

Part of this role will include supporting HW design requirements, developing schematics, working with component engineering, mechanical engineering, PWB CAD, sourcing, program management, technology team(s) to complete lab & test HW designs, development, and delivery to technology team(s).

This successful candidate will need to effectively communicate across Geo s (USA, India, and EU) verbally, and written, on a regular basis.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Perform root cause analysis on rework failure

Build support for various reference devices

Assist in troubleshooting and fixing of lab hardware (tools, rework station, etc).

Develop rework instruction for different skill sets, new equipment and new processes.

Prepare, load, and solder printed circuit boards with minimal supervision.

Perform mechanical assembly of rack assemblies, reference devices, test boxes, and chassis.

Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

Perform repair work, rework, and modifications to assemblies.

Maintain prototype station materials and equipment.

Design and document printed wiring board layouts.

Fabricate wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and PCBs.

Evaluate reliability of materials and techniques used in test platforms.

Communicate effectively with prototype leads and engineering groups.

Support multiple projects on a fast schedule.

Quickly assimilate onto existing team and support multiple projects and customers on very fast design schedules.

Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, effective organization, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams across multiple engineering disciplines (RF/analog, mixed signal, and digital).

Proficient with using AI tools to optimize working efficiency

Ability to trouble shoot engineering test platform

Operate chip reworking, SMT, and 3D printing and CNC machine.

Advanced electronic training or relevant experience.

Proficient in using assembly tools and equipment.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, wire lists, sketches, and schematics.

Experience in soldering and mechanical assembly (including chassis, rack, cable, and harness assemblies).

Basic mechanical assembly skills.

Skilled in soldering and rework of CCAs, including blue wiring.

Experience in disassembly and assembly of devices.

Experience in industrial automation, factory hardware, industrial network protocols, functional safety standards & implementations, and redundant systems.


  • Pursuing a ME, EE or a technical degree

  • Solder and/or ESD certification.
