Description
This position works as part of an Engineering Development Lab team supporting the build and structural testing of commercial aircraft seats and interior furniture. You'll work closely with engineers to prepare test articles and equipment, perform mechanical assembly and adjustments, and help the team quickly transition between tests.
This is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where everyone has a specific role and must work with precision and speed—similar to a NASCAR pit crew.
Location: Winston-Salem, NC – Fully Onsite
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:45 PM with a 45-minute lunch
Overtime: Occasional and based on business needs; weekend work may be required
Education/Experience: 2-year AA degree with at least 3 years of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
Training: On-the-job training with an assigned mentor
Interview Process
Approximately 1-hour panel interview. Interviews will be onsite for local candidates and may be conducted virtually via Zoom for candidates outside the Winston-Salem area.
Job Responsibilities
What You Will Do
Work closely with engineers to build, assemble, test, and refine commercial aircraft seats and interior furniture.
Set up and prepare test equipment and test articles for structural testing.
Support dynamic, life-cycle, static-load, and other engineering testing activities.
Perform hands-on mechanical and assembly work using basic hand tools.
Assist engineers with test-article builds, test procedures, and test results.
Apply basic mechanical and manufacturing knowledge to the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of aircraft seats and furniture.
Read and interpret engineering drawings to support assembly and testing.
Help manufacture and assemble prototypes and test articles.
Support inspection and conformity activities.
Document test results and maintain accurate records.
Use Microsoft Word and Excel to support documentation and project activities.
Work as part of a fast-moving technical team where precision, teamwork, and speed between tests are important.
Qualifications
What We're Looking For
Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience.
Experience using basic hand tools.
Background in areas such as automotive, mechanical assembly, carpentry/woodworking, fabrication, manufacturing, testing, or similar hands-on technical work.
Ability to read or work from engineering drawings.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Experience
Aerospace or automotive experience.
Testing or quality-assurance environment.
Mechanical fabrication or machining experience.
Prototype assembly or manufacturing.
2D or 3D modeling software experience.
Metal machining or fabrication equipment experience.
