Electrical Engineering Manager – Design
Burr Ridge, IL | Direct Hire | 1st Shift, Onsite | $130,000–$160,000 (Based on Experience) | Comprehensive Benefits

Sterling Engineering is partnering with a rapidly expanding engineering organization to hire an Electrical Engineering Manager to lead a talented team developing advanced electrical and electronic security systems. This is a strong opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer ready to step into management, or an experienced Engineering Manager looking for greater technical ownership and strategic influence.

You'll serve as the senior technical authority for complex electrical and low-voltage system designs, leading a multidisciplinary engineering team through projects spanning electrical design, systems integration, and mission-critical technologies. Beyond technical leadership, you'll shape engineering strategy and standards, and work directly with executive leadership, customers, and strategic partners — a role built for someone who wants both technical depth and organizational influence.

What You'll Do
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers and technical professionals
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for complex electrical and low-voltage system designs
  • Lead design and review of electrical schematics, system architectures, and technical documentation
  • Oversee multiple engineering projects from concept through installation and commissioning
  • Partner with project management and operations to build schedules, resource plans, and milestones
  • Provide technical leadership during fabrication, installation, startup, testing, and field support
  • Lead design reviews, value engineering initiatives, and root cause investigations
  • Contribute to RFP/RFQ responses, engineering estimates, and staffing plans
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience
  • Experience designing low-voltage electrical, security, surveillance, access control, or integrated electronic systems
  • Experience managing engineering projects within regulated or critical infrastructure environments
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, and related industry standards
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD software
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain or maintain a Security Clearance
  • Prior engineering management experience preferred — strong technical leaders ready to step into their first management role are encouraged to apply
Nice to Have
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, Department of Energy, or other critical infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of nuclear facility security requirements and regulatory compliance
