Job Summary
Logicbroker is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our DevOps and Infrastructure team. The team runs the cloud platform under every Logicbroker and Virtualstock service: Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability, and production environments serving more than 100 million requests a month across AWS and Azure. As we build agentic capabilities into the product, more of those services call third-party AI models and agents, and this team makes them reliable, observable, and cost-controlled.
This is a player-coach role. You own what the team ships, how reliably it runs, and how its engineers grow. You stay hands-on, focusing your own time on investigation, automation, runbooks, and unblocking the team, using AI and agents wherever they cut toil, and leaving critical-path project work to your engineers.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Logicbroker is unable to provide employment visa sponsorship for this position, now or in the future.
What You'll Do:
Lead the team
- Turn roadmap priorities into a sequenced plan and own delivery against it.
- Hire, onboard, coach, and manage performance for every engineer on the team, including contractors.
- Protect the team’s focus and be its first escalation point: absorb interrupts, report capacity honestly, push back on unrealistic asks, and resolve delivery risks, people issues, and technical disagreements.
- Partner with the VP and peer managers on hiring plans, org design, and technical debt priorities.
Own reliability
- Define SLOs and SLIs for tier-1 services, report error-budget burn monthly, plan capacity ahead of demand, and keep alert quality high enough that on-call engineers trust every page.
- Design an on-call rotation the team can sustain, with clear handoffs and escalation paths. Track out-of-hours pages, drive them down, and make sure no engineer carries sustained out-of-hours load. Take on-call shifts yourself, and be the escalation point for incidents that need a management decision.
- Lead post-incident reviews for infrastructure causes and drive every corrective action to closure.
- Make AI-powered product features production-ready: observability for model and agent calls, and resilience to provider latency, rate limits, and outages.
- Report cloud spend by service, including model API spend, and act on the largest cost drivers.
Run the platform as a product
- Treat application teams as customers: publish a standard path for builds, deployments, secrets, and environments, all in version-controlled code (IaC and GitOps), and measure adoption.
- Set the team’s standards for code review, testing, change risk, and AI-assisted development, and own the team’s DORA metrics.
- Keep the platform secure and audit-ready: own the security baseline for secrets, access, and patching, set guardrails for AI tools and model providers, and support SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audits alongside the Technical Operations Director.
What We Need:
- Experience leading engineers, as a manager or as a senior or lead engineer who has mentored others, given difficult feedback, and helped shape hiring decisions. First-time managers are welcome.
- 4+ years in DevOps, site reliability, or infrastructure engineering, and still hands-on.
- Production Kubernetes (EKS preferred), CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
- Hands-on experience running production reliability (on-call, incident response, SLOs) for a high-volume system.
- A record of helping a team ship on committed timelines without burning out.
- AI fluency: AI-assisted development is part of your daily work, you understand how AI and agentic features behave in production (cost, latency, failure modes), and you can set verification norms for others.
- Clear communication: you translate technical risk into terms executives can act on.
- Comfort making a call with incomplete information.
Preferred Skills:
- People management experience, ideally with full-time and contractor engineers across US and UK time zones.
- Driving a cloud migration or major platform transition.
- Datadog with SLO-based alerting, GitOps and platform tooling (ArgoCD, Istio, Crossplane, Karpenter, or similar), and cloud cost management (FinOps).
- Enough Python (Django), .NET, or Go to challenge application teams’ deployment and runtime proposals.
- Familiarity with SOC 2 or ISO 27001, such as producing audit evidence
