Job Description:
Senior Engineer role supporting design, construction, and maintenance of power generation systems at a nuclear/utility plant site. The role involves applying engineering design standards, supporting construction packages, reviewing contractor deliverables, and ensuring safe and compliant engineering execution. Strong focus on plant operations support, QA/QC, and engineering governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply engineering processes and design criteria for power system projects
- Develop design options and construction specifications
- Support project cost estimation and material take-offs
- Review and provide QA/QC for contractor design and construction packages
- Ensure compliance with Southern Company engineering standards
- Support plant operations, maintenance, and construction teams
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to contractors and junior engineers
- Ensure safety-first execution across all engineering activities
- Support development and improvement of design standards and processes
- Prepare and transmit construction-ready engineering packages
Skills Required:
- Advanced engineering knowledge (power/utility systems preferred)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to make independent decisions within engineering procedures
- Proficiency in engineering design software/tools
- Knowledge of industry and utility design standards
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working with contractors and plant personnel
- Strong safety awareness and compliance mindset
- Ability to mentor and support junior engineers
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (accredited program required)
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Utility, plant, or power generation experience strongly preferred
- Design qualification per IP-ENG-001 preferred
