ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Sports & Events Engineer is responsible for the operational support and onboarding of customers using SES Sports & Events ARQ-based content distribution platforms, including the Zixi and Nimbra Edge delivery systems. The role focuses on customer activation, technical onboarding, service validation, firewall and network access coordination, and operational support for live event distribution services.

Working closely with customers, the SES Master Control Room (MCR), Service Management, and Engineering teams, the Sports & Events Engineer ensures that new and existing customers are successfully integrated into SES distribution platforms and remain operationally ready for live sports and event broadcasts.

This position combines technical platform support with customer-facing activities and requires strong troubleshooting, coordination, communication, and operational skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

• Support the onboarding and activation of customers on SES sports and events distribution platforms, including Zixi and Nimbra Edge ARQ environments.

• Configure, validate, and maintain customer services within operational platforms and supporting systems.

• Perform customer onboarding activities in scheduling and operational management systems, including SchedulALL.

• Coordinate and manage firewall whitelisting requests for customer services, including:

• SES network and security requirements.

• Coordination with customer technical teams to ensure reciprocal connectivity requirements are satisfied.

• Conduct customer acceptance testing and service validation following onboarding activities.

• Act as a technical point of contact during customer onboarding and operational readiness activities.

• Provide operational support to Master Control Room (MCR) teams before, during, and after live sports and event broadcasts.

• Troubleshoot service issues related to content delivery, connectivity, transport streams, and customer reception.

• Escalate complex technical issues to Engineering teams and vendors as required while maintaining customer communication.

• Monitor platform performance and support service restoration activities during live events.

• Maintain accurate records of customer configurations, firewall requirements, operational procedures, and onboarding documentation.

• Participate in operational readiness reviews, service launch activities, and post-event analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Broadcast Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

• 2-5 years of experience supporting IP-based media, video distribution, networking, broadcast, or managed service platforms.

• Experience working with customer-facing technical support or service delivery activities.

• Familiarity with IP networking fundamentals, including:

• TCP/IP

• Routing and switching concepts

• Firewalls and access control

• Network troubleshooting

• Understanding video transport technologies and protocols is desirable.

• Experience with Zixi, Nimbra Edge, or similar IP video transport platforms is highly desirable.

• Experience coordinating customer technical onboarding activities.

• Familiarity with scheduling, service management, or operational support platforms is desirable.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Ability to work outside standard business hours when supporting live events.
