Recommended Minimum Requirements

Experience Required:

• 8-12+ years of overall IT experience
• 5-8+ years of hands-on ServiceNow experience
• Experience leading platform implementations or major enhancement programs
• Experience mentoring developers and administrators
• Experience working in enterprise-scale environments (multiple integrations, governance controls, SDLC processes)

Preferred

• Experience leading ServiceNow transformations or platform consolidations
• Experience with managed service providers and offshore development teams
• Experience supporting regulated organizations (audit, compliance, security requirements)

Core Certifications
Must Have

ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)

Foundational certification for all ServiceNow professionals.

ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)

Demonstrates development, scripting, APIs, business rules, and application architecture expertise.

ITIL 4 Foundation

Essential for understanding Incident, Change, Problem, Request, CMDB, and service management processes.

Strongly Preferred
At least one implementation specialist certification:

• CIS-ITSM (Certified Implementation Specialist - ITSM)
• CIS-Discovery
• CIS-Service Mapping
• CIS-CMDB / Data Foundations
• CIS-CSM (if customer workflows are in scope)
• CIS-HRSD (if employee workflows are in scope)

These certifications are frequently seen on senior ServiceNow architects and consultants. For example, one ServiceNow architect candidate in your environment had CSA, CAD, CIS-CSM, and CIS-HRSD certifications alongside 12+ years of experience.
