Come join the team responsible for developer default project completion and constructing pedestrian bridges, roads, sidewalks, bus stops, trails, and other transportation and pedestrian projects for the County of Fairfax. This position works within the Utilities Design and Construction Division and performs engineering and construction administration work for the Transportation Construction Branch.

Our Utilities Design and Construction Division is responsible for managing the bid advertisement, contract award processes, and overseeing all aspects of construction contract management for transportation projects and stormwater projects including inspection, testing, code compliance, warranty, and project closeout. The division also oversees the completion of developer default projects in the county.
This position is in the Transportation Construction Branch, located in Fairfax County Government center at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia. This position may be eligible for telework.
Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:(Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelors degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus, four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering or architectural field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
An individual who possesses a valid Professional Engineer or Architect license in another state will be granted a temporary exemption to this requirement pending the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers & Landscape Architects decision regarding that individuals application for reciprocity.
Please note that if the selected candidate is licensed in another state, they will be required to obtain a Virginia PE or RA license through the reciprocity process within twelve (12) months of the award letter date as a condition of employment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Ability to participate in and understand verbal conversations at typical speaking volume and pace as well as respond to audio alarms and verbal warnings on construction sites, over the phone, and in the office workplace. Ability to physically negotiate rough terrain and typical construction sites. Ability to read, understand, and produce written and typed documents. Ability to use computers/computer software for communication, report generation, electronic file-keeping, project metrics analysis, and project tracking purposes. Ability to walk steep grades and off-street terrain. Approximately 20% of time spent performing field investigations, measurements, meetings and reviews of construction projects including intersection improvements, sidewalks, trails, roads, retaining walls, developer projects, and other similar projects. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
