The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) seeks an Engineer to perform engineering and construction administration work for the Stormwater Construction Branch within the Utilities Design and Construction Division.

Utilities Design and Construction Division is responsible for managing the bid advertisement, contract award processes, and overseeing all aspects of construction contract management for transportation projects and stormwater projects including inspection, testing, code compliance, warranty, and project closeout.

Note: This role is part of the Stormwater Construction Branch, based at the Fairfax County Government Center, located at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia.

Multiple positions will be filled through this announcement. This position may be eligible for telework following a designated introductory period.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Valid drivers license

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a drivers license check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be highly motivated; possess the skills necessary to work in a fast-paced collaborative team environment; organized, and detail oriented as it relates to construction management and documentation and with strong communication skills.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in construction management for stormwater, major utility, or public works projects.
  • Three (3) years of experience preparing, procuring, administering, and managing construction and engineering contracts for site or utility construction.
  • Experience with project financial and budgetary planning, tracking, and reporting at the project level.
  • Experience in developing and preparing construction specifications.
  • Experience in the close-out of construction contracts, to include closing permits, and resolution of punch list items.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to hear and properly respond to typical construction alarms and verbal warnings on active construction sites. Ability to lift 40 pounds with assistance. Ability to produce organized and legible handwritten, typed/computer generated documents including the use of graphics. Must be able to physically navigate rough and slippery terrain found at typical construction sites to perform field inspections at project construction sites or potential sites for future facilities to make direct observation of work in progress including recognizing unforeseen hazards such as sharp objects, warning signs, slippery surfaces, steep depressions, tripping and fall hazards, sudden movement of heavy equipment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
