POSITION OVERVIEW
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a qualified and experienced Facilities Engineer to join its team in El Segundo, California. This individual contributor position may be filled at either the Principal Facilities Engineer (Level 3) or Senior Principal Facilities Engineer (Level 4) level.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the design, maintenance, reliability, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing and operational equipment and infrastructure. The role will support production objectives by ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, reliably, and with minimal downtime.
The Facilities Engineer will work closely with maintenance, production, quality, operations, project engineering, contractors, and other cross-functional teams to support facility infrastructure and manufacturing equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Troubleshoot facility and manufacturing equipment issues in partnership with maintenance technicians.
Serve as a technical subject matter expert in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), Automation, and Controls.
Review engineering plans for new construction and modifications to existing infrastructure.
Ensure new equipment and infrastructure are compatible, maintainable, reliable, and suitable for operational requirements.
Improve equipment reliability, performance, uptime, and maintainability.
Collaborate with maintenance, production, quality, and operations teams to optimize processes and equipment performance.
Schedule contractors and develop Statements of Work (SOWs).
Develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance (PM) plans.
Identify, manage, and maintain critical spare parts.
Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations.
Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and equipment health/risk assessments.
Develop machine monitoring strategies to support reliability-centered and predictive maintenance.
Analyze vibration, temperature, pressure, and other equipment variables to identify potential failures before they occur.
Monitor equipment performance and implement corrective actions to maximize uptime.
Support development of specifications for future equipment purchases.
Review design deliverables for compliance with industry codes, standards, contract requirements, and company requirements.
Apply applicable standards such as ASME and NFPA.
Develop training materials, technical documentation, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Support Operations Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
Communicate technical information effectively across engineering, maintenance, production, and leadership teams.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - LEVEL 3
Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline + 5 years of relevant experience, OR
Master of Science in a STEM discipline + 3 years of relevant experience, OR
PhD in a STEM discipline + 1 year of relevant experience.
Relevant STEM disciplines may include engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, facilities engineering, construction engineering, or related technical fields.
Candidates must also have experience in at least one of the following areas:

Additional requirements:
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance within a reasonable period.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate is an experienced Facilities, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineer with strong hands-on knowledge of industrial equipment, facility infrastructure, automation, and controls.
Candidates with experience in aerospace manufacturing, autoclaves, PLC programming, electrical controls, predictive maintenance, CMMS/Maximo, HVAC, power systems, and reliability engineering will be especially competitive.
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong technical judgment, problem-solving ability, project and resource management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with maintenance, engineering, production, quality, contractors, and program leadership.
