Description

Full Stack Engineer II (Contract)

Are you a skilled Full Stack Engineer looking to make an impact on large-scale, business-critical applications? We are seeking an experienced engineer to join a team focused on building and supporting modern cloud-native systems that power store operations, financial transactions, and event-driven applications across a large retail environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with modern technologies including Java, Spring Boot, React, Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS while contributing to highly scalable distributed systems.

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Contract with potential for extension
  • Potential for Conversion: Possible, but not guaranteed
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid, 4 days onsite and 1 day remote per week
  • Location: Seattle, Washington
  • Residency Requirement:Candidates must currently reside in the Seattle, Washington area and be able to work onsite as required. Local candidates only.
  • Pay Rate:$60.00 - $70.00 per hour
  • Equipment Provided: MacBook

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build responsive web applications using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern front-end technologies.
  • Develop and support event-driven architectures leveraging Kafka.
  • Deploy and maintain cloud-native applications using AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Participate in system design, architecture discussions, and solution prototyping.
  • Implement monitoring and observability solutions to improve system reliability.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment practices.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting production applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong experience with Java 8+ and Spring Boot.
  • Experience building applications using React.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience developing microservices and distributed systems.
  • Experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL databases.
  • Experience working with AWS cloud services.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and Git.
  • Understanding of performance, scalability, and system design principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with multi-region cloud architectures and high-availability systems.
  • Knowledge of CQRS, eventual consistency, and distributed architecture patterns.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD).
