    Engineer 2 – Gas Distribution Design 

    Client- Southern Company Gas

    Location- Atlanta, GA

    Contract- 2 years

    Position Summary

    The Engineer 2 – Design Contractor supports the planning, design, and development of technical standards for natural gas distribution infrastructure projects at Southern Company Gas. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer who is a self-starter, strong communicator, and critical thinker capable of making sound engineering decisions in a collaborative utility environment.

    Natural gas is a critical component of America’s energy mix, serving more than 70 million homes and businesses. This position offers an exciting opportunity to support the design and construction of safe, reliable natural gas facilities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support planning, design, and development of gas distribution infrastructure projects

    • Perform engineering assignments related to:

      • Gas storage facilities

      • Gas fueling station projects

      • Pipeline components and system functionality

    • Assist with the planning and design of mechanical equipment and components, including maintenance considerations

    • Perform system balance calculations to identify system constraints, low points, and optimal engineering solutions

    • Support and provide engineering oversight for construction activities

    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, contractors, and field personnel to resolve design and construction issues

    • Apply company standards, engineering practices, and safety principles to all work activities

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or General Engineering)

    • 1–3 years of progressive engineering experience
      OR

    • Equivalent combination of education and relevant engineering experience

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification

    Technical Skills

    Required:

    • Project management fundamentals

    • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels

    • Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS): basic to intermediate proficiency
