Job Description:
The Engineer 1 will support Gas Engineering Design activities involving gas distribution projects, including transportation, pressure improvement, renewals, relocations, and new business. The role will involve developing engineering designs, preparing work orders, supporting field and construction operations, and tracking project activities while ensuring compliance with company specifications, federal codes, and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop engineering designs for transportation, pressure improvement, renewals, relocations, and new business.
- Develop meter and regulator set designs and size over-pressure protection.
- Collect and evaluate engineering records for uprating procedures.
- Develop design options and recommendations to improve the gas distribution system.
- Provide engineering support to field operations and construction teams.
- Prepare work-order designs, including drafting and field investigation.
- Investigate land rights and apply company specifications to project designs.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable federal codes, standards, and company requirements.
- Track permitting, approval status, and construction status.
- Manage multiple design projects and related activities.
- Travel to project or construction sites when required.
- Follow all applicable safety and PPE requirements.
- Available to work Monday–Thursday in the Naperville office and remotely on Friday.
- Willing to travel to project/construction sites as needed.
- Able to comply with PPE requirements.
- Civil engineering or utilities design background.
- Knowledge of engineering design principles and practices.
- Ability to read and prepare engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of engineering specifications, codes, and standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively with field and construction teams.
- AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is preferred.
- Gas distribution/utilities experience is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution is mandatory.
- Candidates should have 0–2 years of experience in civil engineering or utilities design.
