    Description

No Energy Background? That’s Okay. We’ll Teach You.
You don’t need an energy background to build a career at Cenergistic. We’ll train you in energy conservation, building systems, and our proven methodology. What we’re looking for is harder to teach: warm assertiveness — the ability to be genuinely likable and genuinely persistent at the same time.
If you like solving problems, working independently, being out in the field, and seeing measurable results from your work, this could be a great fit.
Cenergistic helps schools, universities, hospitals, and government organizations reduce energy waste without capital investment. Since 1986, our clients have redirected more than $7.3 billion in utility savings back to classrooms, patient care, and public services. We’ve also been named an ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year 13 times.
What Our Top Performers Have in Common
Our most successful Energy Specialists build real relationships in their buildings — and they don’t let things drop. People are glad to see them walk in, and people also know they’ll follow up on that thermostat setting until it’s fixed. That shows up as five traits:
    • Friendly. You’re approachable and easy to work with. Custodians, teachers, and administrators want to help you because they like working with you.
    • Assertive. You’re comfortable raising an issue, asking someone to change how they do something, and circling back until it’s resolved — without being pushy or abrasive.
    • Achievement-driven. You’re motivated by goals and measurable results, and you hold yourself accountable to them.
    • Coachable. You learn quickly, take feedback well, and put it into practice right away.
    • A strong communicator and influencer. You can explain the same finding to a maintenance tech and a superintendent, and get both on board. You know how to move people without having authority over them.
    What You’ll Do
You’ll be embedded with one client and take ownership of energy performance across their buildings — typically around 20 locations. You’ll spend time in those buildings looking for energy waste: HVAC running when no one is there, lights left on, incorrect thermostat or EMS settings, unnecessary plug loads, and other operational issues. Then you’ll do the part that really matters — get it addressed.
You’ll build relationships with custodians, facilities teams, principals, administrators, and client leadership, and use those relationships to turn what you find into lasting changes.
    You’ll also:
    • Conduct building audits and identify energy-saving opportunities
    • Analyze utility data and investigate unusual energy use
    • Deploy sensors and use energy-management tools
    • Track findings and follow issues through to resolution
    • Prepare reports and present results to client leadership
    Where You’ll Find Savings
HVAC & mechanical systems · Lighting · EMS & thermostat settings · Computers & plug loads · Doors, windows & building envelope · Kitchen equipment & plumbing · Irrigation & exterior systems
You don’t need to know all of this on Day One. We’ll train you.
    What You’ll Need
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
    • Current auto insurance and ability to provide proof of insurance
    • Comfort with Microsoft Office and learning new technology
    • Strong communication, influencing, and organizational skills
    • Ability to work independently and follow issues through to resolution
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule
A college degree, facilities experience, HVAC/building automation knowledge, or CEM certification can be helpful — but none are required. Great backgrounds include education, military leadership, facilities, property management, hospitality, healthcare operations, customer success, account management, project coordination, operations, and technical support. There is no single “right” background.
    The Schedule
This is a field-based role, not a traditional 8-to-5 desk job. Your week will include client site visits, remote work, virtual meetings, data analysis, reporting, and daily local travel between client buildings.
Because some of the best opportunities to find energy waste happen when buildings are empty, roughly half of audit work may occur during early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holiday shutdowns. Flexibility isn’t an occasional requirement — it’s part of the job.
    Physical Requirements
You’ll regularly walk and inspect buildings, navigate stairs, access mechanical and equipment rooms, occasionally climb ladders, and carry a laptop, sensors, and other equipment. Work may take place indoors and outdoors and in areas with varying temperatures. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
    Why This Role Matters
Every dollar you help a school district save is a dollar that can stay in a classroom. For hospitals, those savings can support patient care. For public organizations, they can go back into serving their communities.
And because lasting energy savings depend on changing how buildings are operated, you’re not just finding waste — you’re helping create changes that keep delivering savings year after year.
