The Role

The Tesla Services Engineering team is seeking a Product Field Quality Engineer who can assess the impact of failures in the context of field failures and, using backend data analysis, identify and analyse the root causes of failures and malfunctions through engineering methods, determine the source of the problem and implement effective countermeasures to improve the products overall health, quality, reliability, durability and customer experience. To efficiently identify and improve product quality, product field quality engineers must have an in-depth understanding of the operational characteristics of energy products, common field failure modes, and the potential quality impacts on the field during design, manufacturing, and production.

Job Responsibilities

• Monitor product performance in the field through real-time product data and back-office work order data to identify and prioritize product quality issues. Investigate and resolve issues based on the severity, frequency, and cost of product failure modes in the field.
• Develop failure hypotheses using first principles and engineering, and liaise with the failure analysis team to ascertain the root cause of the problem.
• Work with the Design Team, Plant Quality and Service teams to implement containment and corrective actions and monitor quality improvement performance on an ongoing basis.
• The role entails coordinating the DFMEA analysis process with cross-functional teams (e.g. design, manufacturing, service teams, etc.) to ensure that all potential failure modes are identified and evaluated, and ultimately drive the resolution of issues in the field.

Requirements

• Bachelors degree or above, majoring in electronics or electrical related fields;
• Ability to think at a system level and effectively drive product optimisation and problem solving across products, disciplines and teams;
• Strong experience in power electronics or power converters for energy storage products;
• Experience in data analysis using Python, SQL, and familiarity with Linux operating system preferred;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese.
