    Highlights

You might spend the morning querying newly integrated power-metering data and validating it against the distribution-panel hierarchy - resolving a data-quality gap - then analyzing load profiles and build an energy-savings or peak-shaving model that quantifies the opportunity by equipment class. Our focus in the coming years is scaling our energy monitoring and analytics programs, expanding behavioral and retrofit programs, expanding load flexibility for power resilience and cost arbitrage benefit, and enhancing asset reliability and lifespan through efficient operation.

    Description

The Energy Analytics, Technical Program Manager (TPM) will scale power monitoring, insight generation, and energy and carbon reduction initiatives across Amazon"s North America fulfillment operations. In this hands-on technical role, you will deploy and generate analysis from power metering infrastructure and implement load flexibility and energy optimization roadmaps that deliver measurable cost savings and carbon reductions. This work directly supports Amazon"s demand-side power requirements and Climate Pledge commitments.

You will operate as an individual contributor, owning the delivery of defined and ambiguous work-streams while partnering with engineering, controls, data, operations and deployment teams to implement changes. You will influence cross-functional partners without authority, primarily at the team and management level, using data to drive decisions. You will integrate and analyze power metering information, providing load forecasts and generating cost and energy savings opportunities. Utility rate structures, time of day, demand ratchets and power factor penalties will influence your strategies. Technical assets influenced can include material handling, robotics, powered industrial trucks, lighting, heating ventilation and air conditioning, plug loads, electrical metering and more. Developed projects will be scaled across hundreds of facilities across the network, producing energy, cost and carbon benefit.

    Key job responsibilities

Build and execute technical solutions for energy and carbon reduction from pilot, data collection, through scaled implementation and measurement & verification (M&V) of results. Energy and load optimization via control systems is a technical requirement: energy-conservation/standby modes, variable speed applications, and equipment scheduling.

Drive continuous monitoring and energy efficiency improvements with Amazon"s energy consuming assets. Integrate power metering into our data sets, and develop analytics to identify opportunities, assess trending consumption changes, and measure benefits of conservation efforts.

Prepare written analysis of feasibility studies and recommendations for various energy monitoring and power flexibility strategies. Own metering data quality programs, check readings for completeness, outliers, and flag actionable improvements, and reconcile against known loads to ensure trusted insight generation.

Develop metrics, baselines, and roadmaps that translate technical work into quantified outcomes (energy savings, cost savings or utility tariff arbitrage, load forecast, reliability, carbon reduction).

Define and own technical approach and cross-system architecture for data configuration, standards and mechanisms for scalability and enforcement of key energy savings mechanisms. Decide how to build and prove new approaches managing tradeoffs for necessary business needs, rather than executing a defined scope.

Manage projects against plans and objectives to ensure commitments are met, delivering against our power and Climate Pledge goals.

Deep diving (troubleshooting) and unblocking issues that are prohibiting teams from pursuing energy reduction initiatives.

Work with critical stakeholders on developing mechanisms for design standard integration for launching facilities that incorporate energy optimization procedures from Day 1.

Analyze and communicate the financial impact of projects and initiatives (payback, return on investment, net present value)

Serve as a technical reviewer for peers and partner engineers - reviewing control logic, metering architecture, and design-standard changes, and improving them on technical merit

Quantify and own value add of energy savings mechanisms and how they reduce equipment runtime and increases reliability and lifespan.

Calculate and report energy, water and carbon savings using International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol methodologies.

    Manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously.

Produce clear documentation, playbooks, and reporting that make work-streams repeatable.

    A day in the life

You might spend the morning querying newly integrated power-metering data and validating it against the distribution-panel hierarchy - resolving a data-quality gap - then analyzing load profiles and build an energy-savings or peak-shaving model that quantifies the opportunity by equipment class. You then define network rollout suitability and prioritize these opportunities across sites. In the afternoon you develop control logic changes to implement an efficiency opportunity, propose updates to a design standard, or define a measurement method for implemented energy and cost savings to your stakeholders. You balance trade-offs between energy savings, technical complexity, equipment reliability, and cost - bringing well-reasoned recommendations and escalating the most ambiguous decisions for alignment.

    About the team

The Global Energy, Sustainability and Automation (GESA) Energy team is dedicated to delivering energy efficiency, cost savings, and demand flexibility within Amazon"s fulfillment network. We partner closely with design, controls, data, procurement, operations, field engineering, and deployment teams - as well as external vendors - to ensure our energy consumption is monitored and optimized. Our focus in the coming years is scaling our energy monitoring and analytics programs, expanding behavioral and retrofit programs, expanding load flexibility for power resilience and cost arbitrage benefit, and enhancing asset reliability and lifespan through efficient operation. If you are energized by large-scale technical challenges and want to make a tangible impact on energy use, this is the team for you.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
