Position Overview
PsyPhyCare is seeking an experienced EMS Medical Director to provide physician leadership and medical oversight for a large emergency medical services program in Los Angeles, California.
The Medical Director will provide clinical leadership, medical direction, quality oversight, and strategic guidance for EMS operations. This physician will collaborate with EMS leadership, paramedics, EMTs, advanced practitioners, educators, hospitals, and other healthcare partners to support high-quality prehospital emergency care.
This opportunity is best suited for an Emergency Medicine physician with significant experience in EMS medical direction and provider-agency leadership.
Key Responsibilities
The EMS Medical Director will:
- Provide medical oversight, consultation, and clinical guidance related to EMS operations.
- Advise program leadership on clinical policies, protocols, procedures, and operational matters.
- Assist with the development and review of EMS medical policies and procedures.
- Support quality assurance and performance-improvement initiatives.
- Review patient-care data, clinical trends, complaints, and adverse outcomes.
- Participate in case reviews with EMS personnel and clinical leadership.
- Support EMS education, training, and continuing education initiatives.
- Provide clinical input related to emergency medical dispatch and prehospital care protocols.
- Provide medical oversight for advanced clinical programs and specialized EMS initiatives.
- Collaborate with hospitals, EMS agencies, public-sector partners, and other healthcare organizations.
- Participate in meetings, committees, and system-planning activities as needed.
- Support EMS research, innovation, and program-development initiatives.
- Provide medical consultation related to field operations and emergency-response activities as appropriate.
- Perform other EMS medical-director responsibilities consistent with program needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
- Completion of an accredited Emergency Medicine residency program.
- Current board certification in Emergency Medicine.
- EMS subspecialty board certification.
- Active clinical practice in Emergency Medicine.
- Current involvement in EMS medical direction and/or EMS education.
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in an EMS Provider Agency leadership role.
- Ability to meet applicable local EMS Medical Director requirements.
Required Licensure
- Current, unrestricted California physician license.
- Current, unrestricted DEA registration.
- Valid California Driver's License.
Preferred Experience

- Municipal, fire-based, or large EMS systems
