    Successful incumbent will be an experienced faculty member with leadership experience in Emergency Medical Science education who will be responsible for the overall operation of the Emergency Medical Science Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the administration of the Emergency Medical Science (Curriculum) and Emergency Medical Services (Continuing Education) programs at Alamance Community College. Responsibilities include maintaining continuing accreditation and assuring that that the program fully meets or exceeds all accreditation and North Carolina Office of EMS standards. The position reports to the Dean of Health and Public Services.

    The department head acts as the liaison between the College and the North Carolina Office of EMS standards and is instrumental in assuring the program meets or exceeds the standards of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) accreditation as well as the North Carolina Office of EMS (NCOEMS) program approval. This position is responsible for assuring all graduates of the program are well prepared, and completion rates are consistently above the required rates each year. In addition to student retention, ensure program outcomes such as NREMT/State Exam pass rates remain high, and job placements of graduates meet or exceed target.

    Maintain accreditation and keep in good standing with, The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), The Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Profession (CoAEMSP) and the North Carolina Office of EMS (NCOEMS) program approval.

    Submit accurate and timely annual reports and post required program outcome data for the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

    Monitor, measure and continuously improve student retention, NREMT/State Exam pass rates, and positive job placement numbers.

    Identify and recruit qualified full and part-time faculty for the Emergency Medical Science (EMS) program, participate in the interview screening process; conduct on-boarding and provide initial and training to new hires.

    Supervise and mentor full and part-time faculty and staff to ensure academic quality and consistency is maintained, and identify and promote professional development opportunities for self, faculty, and staff.

    Develop and post course scheduling and staffing for all classes in the EMS program in a timely manner.

    Advise students and recruit potential students of the EMS program.

    Utilize Watermark to document notes of advising students.

    Oversee departmental budget and provide justification for budget adjustments.

    Develop, review, justify, and recommend new or modified course sequences to the Dean and the Curriculum Committee for approval.

    Purchase appropriate supplies, teaching materials, and textbooks for the program.

    Work closely with the EMS Advisory Committee and Medical Director to ensure program is using quality and current instructional techniques and methods, and graduates are workforce ready.

    Ensure courses are ADA compliant.

    Teach classes as required, which may include days, evenings, and weekends, face-to face, online, and hybrid.

    Incorporate latest instructional technologies in course delivery and utilize interactive learning technologies to engage students in the teaching and learning process.

    Develop and maintain community relationships that support the mission of the school and the Emergency Medical Science Program.

    Continuously cultivate new and nurture current relationships with clinical sites to assure students will have sufficient availability of clinical training sites.

    Participate in all student recruitment efforts and advisement for increased enrollment and retention.

    Participate in faculty committees and other activities, as assigned.

    Maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA regulations when working with students, student records, or dealing with sensitive information.

    Assure that all grades for the EMS department are submitted in an accurate timely manner, in accordance with College guidelines

    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution; master's degree preferred.
    • Current North Carolina Office of EMS Paramedic certification or National Registry Paramedic certification North Carolina credentialed Level II EMS Instructor at the Paramedic level.
    • Five years' full-time field experience as a paramedic in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care.
    • Two years' full-time experience as an instructor in an EMS program in a post-secondary institution.
    • Must be able to obtain CPR, ACLS, and PALS Certification Instructor within 12 months of date of employment.
    • Two years of full-time supervisory experience.
    • Knowledge of and experience with current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice, National EMS Education Standards, and national accreditation for EMS programs.
    • Skilled in the use of current office and classroom/lab technologies.
    • Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Master's degree in healthcare-related field preferred

    KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:

    Proficient with using Colleague and Moodle, Canvas, or similar platforms. Familiarity with Watermark, WebAdvisor, MS Office, Zoom, and Google Drive applications. Applicant should have a solid understanding and experience with implementing requirements for EMS accreditation, budget management, and curriculum development.
