About the Opportunity
A respected California law firm is seeking an Eminent Domain Attorney (Of Counsel) to join its litigation team. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex eminent domain, land acquisition, infrastructure, and public works matters that directly impact communities across the state.
You'll handle sophisticated litigation from inception through trial while collaborating with experienced attorneys who value strategic thinking, professional development, and teamwork. The firm offers a hybrid schedule, strong litigation support, and long-term career stability.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex eminent domain and condemnation litigation from intake through resolution.
- Represent clients in land acquisition, inverse condemnation, and real property disputes.
- Develop litigation strategies and oversee all phases of case management.
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, appellate briefs, and legal memoranda.
- Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive written advocacy.
- Handle discovery, depositions, witness preparation, and evidentiary development.
- Interview clients, witnesses, and subject matter experts.
- Prepare cases for mediation, arbitration, bench trials, and jury trials.
- Advise clients on real property, land use, and public infrastructure matters.
- Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice groups to achieve successful outcomes.
- Maintain strong client relationships while delivering practical legal solutions.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active California Bar membership in good standing.
- Minimum 7 years of litigation experience.
- Strong experience handling law and motion practice, including dispositive motions.
- Demonstrated success preparing complex matters for trial.
- Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
- Strong oral advocacy and courtroom presentation skills.
- Ability to independently manage sophisticated litigation matters.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal communication.
Preferred:
- Prior experience handling eminent domain matters.
- Real estate or real property litigation experience.
- Experience representing public entities or government agencies.
- Infrastructure, transportation, or public works litigation experience.
- Bench and jury trial experience.
- Appellate litigation experience.
- Familiarity with California Eminent Domain Law and related statutes.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $215,000–$315,000, based on experience and qualifications.
- Annual discretionary bonus + billable hours bonus.
